It seems like the rubber part has shrunk (?) and turned to hard rubber from the sun, etc. leaving a gap which allowed the black border strip to come loose. Is securing the black strip back into the groove a matter of purchasing a new rubber "gasket" strip or is there more to securing this than meets the eye? I guess this part is only available at the dealer? Is this a do it myself sort of thing? Easy job?
Thanks!

Astro,
Usually means that its time for a new windshield gasket but you could just replace the trim strip. Its an easy job. Lubricate it with silicone sealer (which will also keep it in place) then press it into the slot in the gasket. The best fix would be to replace the gasket and the trim strip though.
