This is one of those races that I am proud to post about. I was on my way home from a party last friday night at around 3:30 AM. I am on a 2 lane in each direction road with a divider in the middle, and am driving next to a Pre 99 or 00 Maxima SE at about 30mph. I have a friend in the passenger seat and as I look over at this guy we both hit it.

I immediately pulled a 1/2 car on him and at the top of 3rd I shut down with about a 3.5 car lead. We come up to a stoplight and I rolled down my window to give him a holla, and he comes up screaming " Yo man do you have nitrous or a supercharger in that thing" I said, nope, just an exhaust buddy. Hes like, Nah man, you sure you dont have nitrous? I said yea, the light then turned green and I walked him once again.

I dont know if his car was auto or stick but Im assuming it was auto. It was still fun as hell :redspot

ONE SLOW MAX. I'm thinking definitely auto cause I ran 15.0 stock and a 325 aint that fast.

which one was it???
95-99 Maximas look basically the same--> 190hp

00-01 Maximas new body style--> 222 hp

Definitely wasn't this one, you woulda lost auto or stick...
'02 Max same body as 00-01 but 255hp

Nice kill! Gotta love it when you make people ask if you have nitrous just cuz they lost.... :D

yeah the nitrous comment made my day haha,

it was a 95-99 maxima, probably auto based on how I beat it. I once raced my friend in an 02 Maxima Auto and lost. I messed up my launch and shifted 800rpm to soon in first gear but even after that I couldnt gain any ground to him.

yeah i think 95-99 autos run about 16.0-.3

As a Maxima owner (love my BMW) I have to disagree. That MAX MUST have been an auto. They are slow, with my 5spd the autos I have raced were no match at all. I mean KILLED! But I HAVE beat a stick e36 325 before, hehe. OK, be nice.

probably Maxima has higher HP, but on the rear wheel? we don't know how much HP lost on the tranny and differential + body weight .. everybody knows that most japanese car has lower torque than germany car

most jap cars that you are talking about are 4 cyl...maxima is a V6...190hp, 205lb ft stock.

thats for '95-99 Maximas.

new ones got more

I ran 14.6 with an exhaust in my 325is my first time ever at the track...

PS i need to practice track launching more.....

that guy sounded like a dork with the nitrous comment.

Max has too much weight and the front wheel don't help either.... autos are really slow but the stick feels faster....

too much weight...check again...3000 lbs.

anyways overrated cant be tru. noone ever rates them as anything special so how can they be overrated.:laugh noone expects a Maxima to do 14s stock. but thats what they have been capable since the 4th gen came out in '95.

The new Maxima is pretty heavy if I recall.... I think the current Altima has a better power-to-weight ratio... :dunno

good kill..

i got got 97 max auto and a 02' 325.

The max would def lose. it's geared less aggressively and has less torque at lower rpms.

as for the 5 sp max... not too sure.. i think it would be close.. but i doubt the max 5sp would easily win.

the new max has more power.. but i've seen somewhere that the power curve is very similar to the older ones (?)

Yes the new Altima is faster than the new Max due to the power-to-weight ratio. It runs 14.6-14.7 stock. :boink

the 2002 and 2003 Maxima SE 6spd can do 14.2 stock with 255hp.
the new Altimas can do 14.1 stock with 240hp and 5spd.

I dont know what the 2004 Maxima can do. My guess is slower. it only got 10hp and gained weight like Silverstreak pointed out.

i ran 15.0 in my 5spd stock. mighta etched 14.8-.9 but only went to the track once stock. i dont know what the 325i runs.

I can easily say that 02 M3 can do 11 seconds .. it's bullshit without timeslip

This is from the Car and Driver website:

"6.0 seconds to 60, 15.7 to 100, and 14.7 seconds at 97 mph over the quarter-mile, a sharp contrast to the last manual Maxima we tested in June 1999: 0 to 60 in 7.0, 19.5 to 100, and 15.6 seconds at 91 mph for the quarter. The '02 car also posted substantially better braking numbers, requiring 182 feet to stop from 70 mph, compared with a very indifferent 195 feet by our 1999 test car."

Check it out for yourself.

magazines never post the best numbers. again i hit 15.0 stock and you will never see a mag saying that.

Motorwerkz I really dont care if you believe me. Its not that unbelieveable. Look at the power to weight ratios. If you dont believe me go to the track and see it for yourself. 14.2 is a good time. I am not saying everyone does that. I think 14.4-.5 is an avg.

Maximas are no joke. I have an auto 1999 that ran 14.80s@95mph with intake, y pipe, catback, and pullies. My buddy has a 95 5 speed maxima that run 13.9x on all engine. When he puts his slicks on he runs 13.80s@100. To be honest with you i dojnt think my 97 M3 would be able to take him down the 1/4. Also for all who are skeptical about what i have said and what was said about times earlier in this thead please use this as a reference http://www.maxima.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=46.

I love that, "post a timeslip" crap, cuz you do, then it's "BS" or someone else's timeslip, then it's a post a video, and you do, then it's "BS" cuz you have "mad editing skillz", etc... :laugh

The only way to please some people is to do it in front of them live and in person....

The FWD shouldn't matter too much when ur movin around 30mph or more. Why would I know? Because I drive FWD:D. But he was right to get smoked the 2nd time they ran.

The auto Maxima is almost a second slower than the 5spd 0-60.

I ran 13.6s @ almost 101 (best trap 100.99) not 13.8s heh. Hows the M3 treating you Adam. I might be coming out there soon. BTW my car is a 96 :D

As for the 2002's I have seen multiple 2002 autos run 14.7 stock in the same day. The quickest stock 6spd I know of was 14.28. Most are running like 14.5ish.

One misconception about maximas is that they are heavy. They aren't. My 96 weighed just a shade under 2900lbs stock. The fully loaded 2002 GLE, the heaviest max you can get, is 3275. I dont know what the 2004s weigh.

Good kill to the dude who started this thread.
