fullswing 05-09-2008, 12:22 AM Fellow Legionnaires,
We'd like to announce that the site www.E21Legion.net (http://www.e21legion.net) is up, but not quite running. Before you get too excited, read on.
The E21 Legion as we know it is about collaboration, sharing best practices and information, and fellowship... and occasional episodes of hijinks.
As such, it seems quite fitting that www.E21Legion.net (http://www.E21Legion.net) is built on the Google Apps platform, as it promote collaboration using multiple customizable web-based applications such as gmail, calendar, docs, sites (build your own webpages on E21Legion.net), chat and a startpage similar to what you would get on www.igoogle.com (http://www.igoogle.com)
A cool feature is that legionnaires can have access to a @E21Legion.net email address, which incidentally, is necessary to fully use all features in the site.
The site will grow as much as its users want it to. Our content will be user-driven, much like wikipedia.
The initial content categories are:
About us
Editorials
E21 FAQs
E21 DIYs
E21 Online Store (cafepress.com) (http://www.cafepress.com/e21legion)
E21 Registry
E21 Library
E21 Classifieds
Site Map
Contact Info
Membership
The online store, through Cafepress.com will allow Legionnaires to upload artwork and order items even on a one-off basis, i.e. order quantities of 1. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, the site will disallow the use of the BMW roundel logo. Sales will support the ongoing maintenance of the site.
Suggested informational content for the website include:
A. Shirt Designs / Graphics
B. DIY Writeups or Links
Basic
Suspension
Wheels
Etc
Advanced
M10 Upgrades
Transmission
Driveline
Expert
Engine Swap to other Engine
Turbocharging
Items for Sale
OLD MAN's exhaust
TheNeek's Polyurethane bushings... to fill the void left by E21parts.com, etc.
HOWEVER, the website DOES NOT INTEND TO REPLACE our comfy home here on bimmerforums.com. As such, it will NOT have a bulletin board / forum feature.
What it will allow the E21 Legion to do is to democratically build a site with E21-specific content to meet our E21-specific needs.
Disclaimer: E21Legion.net Administrators reserve the right to edit and/or organize content in the interest of avoiding misinformation about facts relative to the E21.
IF you would like to be part of the grassroots website that is E21Legion.net (or just want to put a stake in the ground for your E21Legion.net email address), send me an email at fullswing AT e21legion DOT net containing:
First and Last Names
Your desired E21Legion.net username, where username@e21legion.net will become your email address
Alternate email address to which registration information can be sent
The registration process will take some time BUT the wait will be worthwhile. As with any new venture, there will be some birth pains. We are hopeful that the site will get better and better as it evolves.
If you would like to take a more direct and active part in the development of the website as an Administrator or Moderator, please make your intentions known in your registration email.
Thanks and best regards to all,
fullswing

it's fer sher... so go buy yourself an E21 and get with the program...
Night crew of one checking in for duty, let's get this thing up and running.
blitzed310 05-09-2008, 10:23 AM I'll work on starting a collection of sites dedicated to the E21 such as forums, specific home pages, and online part vendors. From there members can add to it.
I can also do a number of write ups. I was going to post a DIY for a clutch but got lazy on taking pics while I was under there. I can still do a step by step without pics if anyone wants it.
We also need to add the FAQ to the site and revise it (I nominate Josh for this).
It would also be nice to have a page dedicated to PDF's and such, like diagrams, scans of the E21 Manual, Haynes, charts, CAD files, etc.
Tell me what you need Jimbo, I'm sorry I couldn't help more when you requested, I honestly just got lazy from work, this requires more work than one would think. Thanks for getting this going.
john320i 05-09-2008, 10:34 AM Hellz yeah. I'll get started on a pertronix and msd DIY write up!
BoomerDJ 05-09-2008, 12:39 PM i can photocopy my entire hanes manual?

i can photocopy my entire hanes manual?
I would be surprised if that would be allowed by Hanes publishing, but who knows...
If it is for some strange reason not illegal, I happen to have the factory BMW repair manual on microfiche for the Euro 320/6 and 323 cars. If it is allowed, I would be willing to try and see if I can get it converted somehow and put it up for Legion use.

fullswing 05-09-2008, 05:57 PM UPDATE:
Emails have gone out to those who registered for E21Legion.net The emails contain instructions on how to login.
Remember, you're not supporting me... you're helping build the E21 Legion!!!
todor 05-09-2008, 05:59 PM awesome! i have a couple of DIY write-ups that could be put up there
(currently hosted at my own site - check my signature)
E21Favuzzi 05-09-2008, 06:31 PM Awesome, can't wait to get registered. As a suggestion, maybe you could add a meets /events section so that we could post up various track/autox events or meets that members will be attending.

The Calendar function can be seen and used by all, i.e. members can enter info just as you would in an MS Outlook calendar.
Invites can be sent and accepted as well. It's pretty slick in that there's no learning curve at all... that is, if you don't fail at the internet and/or computers.
Did I mention that you can make your own page that's dedicated to your E21? You can do this using the sites feature at sites.e21legion.net. Alternatively, you can create your webpage elsewhere and paste it into the sites tool.
"Build it, and they will come."
jeff323 05-09-2008, 07:23 PM Just a thought.
I know you said that there wouldn't be a forum on the site, but what about having a forum link? So that way, when you click on "forum", it will take you to the E21 page here at bimmerforums from the E21Legion page. This way it won't alienate bimmerforums and E21Legion gets to kinda/sorta have a forum.

We've got 30+ people who have signed up so far in this short time period. Not a world record, but hey, the site isn't even a week old!
A few esteemed legionnaires have signed up - kdanielson for one, and AlaskaBimmer for another!
Last point - since the Legion has so many chapters so numerous to count (:P)... I'll put up placeholders for:
1. Northwest
2. Southwest
3. Northeast
4. Southeast
5. Midwest (?)
6. Bay Area (?)
7. Oz (?)
8. Asia (?)
9. Europe (?)
That's it for now.
Go LEGION!
BoostedE21 05-11-2008, 11:46 PM BTW how does that damn google chat work? I tried to log in with the E21legion e-mail addy and use my PW and says its wrong. When i try to sign up, it says there is already a name with that e-mail addy....wtf mate

fullswing 05-12-2008, 09:43 PM I did a document on wheel fitment and et info but I don't know how to get it out for others to see. Help??
ken
hey ken,
thanks for creating the document!
in docs.e21legion.net (http://docs.e21legion.net), you can see your documents and also share them with anyone you want:
1. check the box to the left of your document's title
2. click on the Share icon on the toolbar above the list of docs
3. a pop-up will appear titled "Add collaborators or viewers"
4. you can type in email addresses or "choose from contacts"
to maximize the use of the google email client, you can import your contact list via a .csv file. in mail.e21legion.net (http://Mail.E21Legion.net), there is a link at the bottom of the page titled "Import (http://mail.google.com/a/e21legion.net/contacts/ui/ContactManager?js=RAW&maximize=true&hide=true&position=absolute&hl=en&emailsLink=true&sk=true&border=NONE&eventCallback=ParentStub1210642834930&zx=oe7yc1-xj08y5#)".
keep the questions coming!
best,
jimbo

Maybe we can put together a links page e21legion.net that's exclusive to e21.
