Ok, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately and I'm pretty sure at some point in my life, I want to give my car a nice little boost under the hood. I don't really want to swap engines, just want to keep my m10. I've been toying with two options in my head: turbo m10 or built and webered m10. From what i've read, I like the sounds of both but being 16, cash is always tight. If (lets hope) the grass grows a lot this summer and I bring in about 5k... are either of these two opions in my price range? Or am I off my rocker? Lets leave body work out of the question. And I could pull the engine and with lots of help form you brilliant people, I could probably figure out a mile turbo build, but I'm pretty sure I could rebuild an engine.
So what are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike B.

with 5 grand you can do either. but i can tell you that you'll get way more for your money if you go FI

Haha thanks.
I've been kind of leaning toward the idea of FI but it all seems pretty complex... expecially after reading Maximum Boost, which basically told me it takes a month and a half to figure out what size turbo you need. So I guess my other question would be: for those who have turbo-ed their e21 with k-jet, is would it be too hard for me to do? I have pretty limited knowledge or automobiles but am willing to learn. Thanks,
Mike B.

None of us were born with any kind of knowledge, hell we couldn't survive on our own without our momma's.
I think you are off to a good start with reading and being here. The hardest part to anything is to start it. So maybe get your budget together, then add 50% on top of that since budgets NEVER pan out as they should. Figure what basics you want such as EFI, top mount turbo (log manifold or custom tubular), size the turbo (where you want the power), what are you going to do with the stock motor (leave the bottom end, build up both top and bottom end?). Dont forget about the FI section, while there is probably zero E21 people in there, there are plenty of guys in there who really know what they are talking about and can give you pointers.
I would also suggest before you do a turbo project that you get the rest of the car reading for a project, such as replacing everything that needs it.
