Ok guys now i know the hard cooling system line that is found on the obd2 s52 needs to be removed in order to make room for the bracket that holds the IAC etc.

the obd2 steel coolant line popped right out of the timing case cover, but for some reason i can not remove the sleeve out of the obd1 timing case that allowes the use of the rubber coolant hose instead of the steel one. do i have to swap timing cases?

here is what i am talking about...

OBDI (notice the sleeve i am talking about that the hose slips over)

OBDII (no sleeve, the steel coolant line just slips in there)

i can hardly spin the sleeve in the OBDI timing case cover and it will be a huge PITA to remove. I called a bmw parts dept. and they said that i have to buy the entire timing case cover...cant just buy the sleeve

reuse the steel pipe and cut your stock line where the metal pipe starts

so just cut the stock steel line so i can pull the rubber hose from the obd1 car over it? ive thought about this but thought it might leak since there is no ribs

you should be able to put the rubber hose over the metal pipe. Pretty sure I have done it on another car and it worked fine. If not just buy a hose going to the overflow tank from the dealer.

If you need the obdI sleeve, turner motorsports sells one.

What about cutting the OBDI timing cover and removing the coolant fitting...then pressing/bonding it into the OBDII timing cover? I've got a couple OBDI timing covers sitting around and was going to do this over the weekend. I'm keeping my S52 OBD2, but going into my 95' with a combo of OBDI and OBD2 parts.

I bought the Turner OBDII-> OBDI adapter for my S52.. but I ended up not using it.. if anyone wants its they can have it for $25 shipped brand new in packaging.. it's basically a machined aluminum adapter and a tab of epoxy.. if you have an S52 I would advise you to just keep the metal pipe

The S52 uses a steel coolant pipe with 2 O-rings which I think is a much more reliable solution than the OBD1's monstrous rubber spider, all you need to do is to buy about 5 feet of 7/8" heater hose and connect coolant circuit.. there are two 22mm ports on the steel pipe, one end goes to the (1) expansion tank, the other end goes to the (2) heater valve... you can just plug the single 1/4" port that goes to the TB.. if you want to bypass the heater core just connect (2) directly to the engine block fitting at cylinder 6.
