Hey guys.

Today, I went over to superstore to fill up $20 CAD worth of fuel. After I got back home, I read the receipt and it actually had regular fuel (87 octane) printed on it. Note, they had full serve (and prepay policy) and I did tell them I wanted premium (therefore, it's either a mistake or a typo) and I was driving a 2004 BMW 3 series at this time. Also, I always fill up with premium fuel (91 octane or above)... until today...

Thus far, I haven't experienced anything unusual. Then again I don't usually accelerate very fast so I may not have recognized anything significant because of my driving style.

My friends tell me it's probably not a huge deal since it's the first time that has ever happened. What do you think? Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated =).

I wouldn't worry about it at all.
But if you are really stressin over it, I would just buy some octane boost, and go along your way. Or just go to the station and top off with 93 octane, that will boost the octane rating some.

87 AKI won't kill your car, nothing to freak out about. Your DME will automatically adjust the engine timing to accomodate it. If anything, you may feel slightly more hesitation and less power, but nothing hugely significant.

Next time you fill up on 91, it will go back to the normal timing, so there are no long term effects.
