Need a third opinion here. So, love my BBS RK I's, decide I'm going to get them straightened, have that done. Had been running Bridgestone RE750's in 235-40-17's, liked them a lot. After a couple years of spirited summer driving, they were done. So, got the wheels straightened and decided to go with Kumho's, and the ASX's seemed to meet my requirements--size/ratio, price, and a mileage warranty!

So, they arrive at my mechanics, I bring him the wheels, he mounts them etc, says that he doesn't think the rims are straight. So, now I'm thinking that the guys who straightened my wheels did a crap job. I go back to them, and they insist the rims are straight, and show me on the hunter how the tires seem to be out of round, while their measurements of the rims indicate that they are straight.

So, did I get 4 (FOUR!!!) defective tires???? Seems crazy, but thats what the rim refurbishing co is telling me. They too had a hard time believing that i could get 4 defective tires. I ordered them from treaddepot since this was going to cost me $40 less than at tirerack (my gut said go with the tried and true company that has done me so well, but...). So, my plan is to call treaddepot tomorrow and see what they have to say about this. I'll report back.

This is my first set of Kumhos, and so far I'm not impressed-- not just because of this issue, but also because cornering stability is poor. I like to drive hard into corners, and i feel like the sidewalls flex a whole bunch--almost soft and bouncey feeling--granted if they are out of round... Even so, they do not feel like an ultra performance tire.

I want the RE750's again! I see tirerack still has them, but would need to get a refund from treaddepot first...

Input appreciated. What do you think?

Really doesn't surprise me. I always spend the extra $$ to get better tires even though its tempting to go with a cheaper brand. I've had 10 sets of Bridgestones and no problems at all; and I'll continue to buy them.

I've been a long term Michelin and Continental user and now Bridgestone and I recommend them all (granted I only tries the Conti snows). I like to drive hard, esp. cornering, and prefer the better bands even for more $$. I always say you get what you pay for, that saying applies to everything.

+1 on RE750s. I'm on my second set.

Sucks they've been discontinued. The RE760 should be a good tire too though.

Thanks, just got off the phone with treaddepot. They were very nice, not at all defensive or rude. Options are to go to one of my local kumho dealers and have them deal with an exchange/mounting/etc. or treadepot will give me a refund upon the return of my tires to them (i have to pay shipping).

I'm calling tirerack to get some of those last re750's!

Any further thoughts? Part of me thinks treadepot should pay for the shipping since all 4 were defective, but they seem to be saying that that's Kumhos problem.

It's a customer satisfaction thing IMO. If you still trust them and want to order from them they talk to them and say you will only order again if they cover the shipping charges for the whole exchange, otherwise pay the shipping back and take your business elsewhere. Part of me says they shouldn't be stocking defective merchandise, it just seems suspicious all 4 are defective by accident, probability theory is not on their side.

Thanks, I agree. They seemed sincere enough, and seemed to have a hard time believing they were all defective. But, I think i will go to tirerack--I've never had a defective tire from them.

Also, whether defective or not, the sidewalls are pretty soft, which I've seen mentioned in reveiws on tirerack by some. Very comfy for touring, but the tire structure itself seems weak and too flexible for any serious spirited driving--at least on the e36's. Anyway, thanks for that validation. When i get my other tires I'll try to insist on having them pay for shipping--all 4 is not acceptable.
