I am new here and posted this in the 3 series forum before seeing this Rocky Mtn forum. I am looking for recommendations on a good shop that can tint the windows and put a clear bra on my soon to be arriving 335xi coupe. Any suggestions in the Denver/Boulder area?

Me and my friend just took his truck to get tinted today...

All 3M stuff and he got 5% on the rear and 15% on the sides and it was only $130...I will take some pictures to show the craftsmanship

Where did you go?

I found a couple of places in Boulder that look pretty good. Clear Choice and Bing's. I am taking the day off on Friday to go visit a few places to check out their work and work environment.

Denver Window Tint uses 3M material and they warranty their work and products. Near Parker and Iliff if you want to drive out that far.

I used American Auto Enhancement a couple of times at Arapahoe and Broadway. The guy did an excellent job every time.

+1... They've done several cars for us/friends, etc. They do great work and will stand behind it.

Thanks all. I just spoke to the guy at Denver Window Tint. I am going to go check out his shop on Saturday. What grades are folks doing in CO? I know the legal limit is 27% but I want a bit darker. I am thinking 15% or 20%.

I went 20% on mine and am very happy with it.

are most folks going with metalized or non-metalized films. I found one shop that uses Madico non-metalized film. Either way, all films are guaranteed for life against fading.

This may be a silly question, so I'll ask it. What does the window tint percentage have to do with passing emissions?

Emissions test coincides with vehicle inspections - so I'm guessing folks are getting caught for improper tint during those events. If you're stopped for a traffic violation, you can also get cited then.

The emissions people were just being pricks cause i passed with 2.5% on one car and 5% on another. i had a 70% windshield too.

No emission inspections in El Paso County. Woot.

I have never heard of anyone in Colorado getting a ticket for to dark of tint. Maybe I'm oblivious, but in the thousand times I've been pulled over I have never had a problem with 15%. You just get to watch the cop walk up all scared cuz he cant see in.

Yeah, Colorado is not the same as Cali. I dont think cops are very well trained at that or if they are, they just dont care that much. My friend had an Audi with dark ass limo tint and he got pulled over and ticketed all the time for speeding but not for his tint.

I got my clear bra done by clear choice and plan on going back for the carbon tint...

What does the tint have to do with emissions? They run the emissions test and then test your gas cap and you are on your way. I had an Integra with 20% all around for 9 years and neither the police who pulled me over (once) or the emissions people said anything. Thanks for the tips on shops as I'm looking to get the 3-series tinted but I am still unsure if I want it as dark as 20% this time. :buttrock

i run 20% and have not had an issue yet. ...personally i think that here in CO the limit should be darker than 27, EVERYONE i know who has tint has atleast 20% if not darker.

we're closer to the sun, that's my arguement.

I called clear choice and they are almost double the cost of any other place I have called. They want ~$450-500 cash only for the 18% carbon tint.

I went by IDS Window tint in Littleton and they want $225 cash for 20% non-metalized Madico film.

I called about 10 different places and all had prices that compared to IDS. Clear Choice was way higher. I am not sure why. IDS does all the work for the Lamborghini and Ferrari dealers in Denver.

Is that IDS price just for new tint or including old tint removal?

There was a Maserati GranTurismo in the IDS shop getting tint the same day I got mine :buttrock...btw, I didn't have to pay cash for the whole thing, they just make you pay cash for the <27% tints. So you pay the $175 or whatever and then use cash to make up the difference for the darker tint.

They charge extra for darker tint? That doesn't really make sense to me.

They charge extra for tint that is darker than the legal limit.

I didn't really understand the reasoning for darker tints being more other than maybe liability.

M62pwrdE38

When I had my 300ZX and 740iL tinted there was no extra charge for the darker tint, I just had to pay cash. Sounds to me like the other place is just trying to make a little extra on the side. If they do great work then I guess its worth it.

im getting mine done at IDS on monday.

Does your car have the dot matrix on the rear window? I would be interested in seeing or hearing how they deal with this when tinting. Kindly report back after your car is done.

How dark of a tint are you getting?

raceyBMW

With mine they just gave it a little love. I actually need to bring it back to them to give another try at it. They got half of the matrix really well, but half needs some more work.

Please report back. I called clear choice in boulder and they are quite a bit more expensive however they use suntek carbon film which is quite pricey. they talked to me about different ways they can deal with the dot matrix on the rear window.

Please post pics of your car if you can.

how much did clear choice say it was?

I should be picking my car up in about an hour or two. Ill take pics as soon as i get home. Ill make sure to take a picture of the dot matrix in back and let you know if i have any issues with it.

well, knowing that carbon film is more expensive, they wanted $425 (another $50 to do the vinyl strip over the dot matrix). I knew they were more expensive than other places but apparantly from what I have been reading their work is incredible.

glad you are happy. did they use a vinyl strip along the top of the back near the dot matrix? If not, I assume you can see the dot matrix through the film. Is it bothersome?

also, if you don't mind me asking, how much?

SomePersonInCO

u can still see the dot matrix but it is not bad at all. Im just really happy with the work that they did.

I paid 250 for mine.
