View Full Version : Ring of the ROckies
fitler 05-05-2008, 10:49 PM Just thought that i would throw this out there. We maybe coming in to a new age of motorsports in CO. Anyone with any info other then what is on the website should let it be known. Looks like it is a go since they have already designed the tracks and own the land. Could be the answer to a lot of prayers.

M62pwrdE38 05-05-2008, 11:05 PM Looks pretty cool. Doubt it will be finished in the next few years though.
JsnChristianson 05-05-2008, 11:51 PM I saw this at the Denver Auto Show this year. It looks amazing, but I am curious about the costs for membership, it looks like an expensive club to be a part of.
Rosspbig 05-06-2008, 12:01 AM It looks like they have memberships ranging from 20k-100k
patmcd 05-06-2008, 12:14 AM When I talked to them about the Denver auto show, they said that they were hoping to have the track up and running in usable form by the summer of 09. Of course who knows if that will really happen. They also mentioned that they really want to have local clubs out there so hopefully the RMC could get some events out there. As much fun as Pueblo is, it'd be nice to have some choices.
Gladius 05-06-2008, 11:00 AM Well there is the track that CAMA is invested in, that will be open by next year. The land is already purchased and I believe they are starting to grade it this summer. It's somewhere NE of DIA.

SpartanEuro 05-06-2008, 06:08 PM wow. interesting.
..it's quite a shame that all are just foothills or high-plains. none are actually taking advantage of the mountains. i how(*edit*sp - hope? uncounscious freud-slip right there - maybe i wanted to *howl* haha) for some DRASTIC altitude changes.
of what i could watch/see, it looks like mostly flat turns, not much banking, nor that much fun. ...with the terrain we have in this state we should be getting a track with Nurb-style banking "dip'n_pop" turns as well as Laguna-esk "cork_screws"
"Country Clubs" should be more interested in driver entertainment rather than "passing opportunities"

It would be nice, but you also have to take a look at the cost of the land itself. Land out east is relatively cheap compared to what it would cost in the mountains.
There is also the constructibility of it amongst other things, such as cut/fill, bedrock, right of way, etc.
Hope you don't take it the wrong way, just providing some possible insight on location.
fitler 05-06-2008, 08:35 PM wow looks like there is stuff popping up all over. I wonder if there will be enough business for them all to survive.

If anything else it will make a nice competitive market for racers business, instead of one track having a monopoly.
E36Chubbs 05-07-2008, 12:51 AM Well the "Ring of the Rockies" I guarantee won't have nearly as much business as the others due to it have a $150,000 one time fee and a $25,000+ anual fee haha yeah umm no...
fitler 05-07-2008, 06:59 PM what you guys don't have and extra 150k just sitting around? That have a 20k rate if your under 30yrs.

I think you are missing the point. It is no different than a Golf country club that charges its members $40,000 a year to play 18 holes whenever they want. The track looks amazing and would be great to have another venue in town.
SpartanEuro 05-08-2008, 02:09 AM it really would be nice to see some local tracks (secondcreek- i never got to rail you -:( )and hopefully some locally hosted professinoal league races as well as some intense local club activities. hopefully atleast more than one of the three prospective tracks makes it past the drawing board.

not taken wrong at all! i definately agree with your statements. ...personally however looking at "theRing"s plans i can't see much about their intended use of banking on the turns. ...my prior statement was mainly a response after watching Genoa's digital "test drive" of their track.
i really hope that we see atleast one local track with truely unique curves and turns, "theRing" does seem like the most investment/possibility of turning out great. If one of these could turn out to be the new "gem" in the motorsports world due to some sort of unique feature that no otehr track possesses, it could be great times for all.
As an avid racing Sim user, the possibility of having something come to fruitition right here is quite a tantalizing prospect. Tilke seriously has the best job in the world. I would love to work on a team for something like that. i just pray that we don't see some track that has no unique features otehr than different turn radii or different braking points, straight lengths, etc.
....and i just wish they wouldn't try to call it "Ring of the Rockies" when they are not even on the foothills. ...maybe the "mileHigh-motorRing"? seriously, claiming affiliation to the rockies when this is going to be far from a true chunk of mountain asphalt, it's just a bad marketing ploy, it'll lead to much dissatisfaction when non-locals hear of it and want to come visit only to find that it's in the prairie and not even the sagebrush let alone the foothills :banghead:
anyway you put it, i'm amped! Highplains has a "Prairie Corkscrew" that looks like it would be incorporated in a "club" layout.... fun times coming,... hmmm, that's odd, i seriously just heard a little whisper from the guy on my shoulder say "strip out a 135i" haha
