View Full Version : Can I have Contour wheels?
Display0409 05-05-2008, 05:39 PM Hi all,
New to the forum and I would like some help please. Sorry in advance if this is a common repetitive question.
Ok, so I just bought my first Bmw, it's a 1992 318i and disgusted with the wheels I have. After searching through this forum I saw how pretty the contours looked.
My question is will they fit my car without any mods?
Will I have to roll my fenders or lower my car or anything?
Should I need spacers?
Or lug bolts?
Maybe hub rings?
I'm hoping its a direct fit, but I guess I'll find out in a moment. :buttrock
easymoney 05-05-2008, 08:14 PM Welcome! Do you have a staggered set up (7.5 infront & 8.5 rears)? You do not need the items you mentioned or make any mods to accomodated them. 225/45 for the front and 235/40 for the rear and you'll be OK.
tiFreak 05-05-2008, 08:18 PM any wheels that fit an E36 M3 will fit an E36 318
3two8eye 05-05-2008, 08:44 PM just make sure you do not get replica wheels. I made the mistake 5 years ago buying reps made for a 5 series and they rubbed. I'f you get real contours then they'll bolt right up no problem.
tiFreak 05-05-2008, 08:47 PM they do make reps that fit a 3er, I have a set of 16" reps I'm putting on my car once I get tires

Gee thanks for the welcome!
Especially thanks for the "ok" to get them! Since you brought up about the staggered set-up I want them even more now.
Display0409 05-06-2008, 01:34 AM I did some searching, and a few members were against the replicas not only for fitment, but quality as well. So I decided if I'm going to be driving on these wheels everyday, quality is a must. Thank you ti for the suggestion.
Display0409 05-06-2008, 01:39 AM Ok, now about my suspension problem. I hate to start a new thread but how about replacing some springs? And probably some shocks while I'm at it. The reason being is because the guy I bought my car from cut the springs, so it's sortv'e slammed on ugly 15's... If you could picture it, its pretty ugly IMO. I just wanna clean it up a little.
You guys think I'll be ok with H&R sport springs riding on contours? Will there be rubbing issues? Or should I replace them with OEM springs?

If you don't want to spend money for now go OEM momentarily they are pretty cheap. I just gave away my rear for free just to get rid of them and I'm pretty sure you'll find the fronts as well. Just take your time and browse around.
Display0409 05-06-2008, 03:51 PM Are all E36 springs interchangeable or must I use some from a 318 as well? I came across some on craigslist off a m3.
FREE is always good.
tiFreak 05-06-2008, 07:40 PM M3 springs will fit
Display0409 05-07-2008, 02:01 PM Thanks Ti. Where are you gettiing your replicas, may I ask?
I guess I'll be doing alot of saving if I'm going to get some contours.:banghead:
I'll be on craigslist till I get some Lol
tiFreak 05-07-2008, 08:35 PM I got the reps used off craigslist, my dad bought them as winter rims for his M3 and just gave them to me when he decided he wasn't going to drive it in the snow, woot! second set of free rims I've gotten for the ti :buttrock
Display0409 05-08-2008, 12:44 AM Ah.. Good ol craigslist.
I'm really anxious about getting some contours and I cant wait!
Btw, do you know what offsets I can have on my 318?
Also, where on this forum can I find ALL the Oem wheels & styles.
I wanna see what else can I have. I swear when I wasn't looking for contours, I see
them all the time. Now that I'm looking for some, I just don't see any; for a good price
of course.. Thanks ti. All help is appreciated as usual.
tiFreak 05-08-2008, 07:17 PM E36 3-series uses a 35-40mm offset, not sure where you can find a list of OEM wheels

Thanks dude.
Mossman11 05-11-2008, 04:25 PM contours or double spoke 2s are the only allowable oem upgrades though.
