I will be at the Spring Drive for sure. Strange that yesterdays burger night meet was not on the RMC CCA website calender, only found out about it through the emails they send out. Next one in the South burbs area is at the SW Littleton Sonic on the 16th. I will be at that one as well.

Gladius

Yeah I didn't see it in their newsletter and they only sent out the email a couple days ahead of time. There's also one in Westminster next week.

Is membership in BMW CCA a requirement to attend the spring drive? It sounds fun, but I am not a member.

Gladius
05-09-2008, 10:20 AM
I don't think it is. You do have to sign a waiver. I'm sure they look at it as a recruiting opportunity :)

It's not a requirement, you do need to RSVP however.

How can you RSVP for the event? I would like to attend and am also going to try to get the local M5 owners to change the date for the M5 spring drive to work in conjunction with this event, but I guess we would need more information about how to RSVP?

They will post details on the RMC BMWCCA website or send out notices on the club forum emails when the day gets closer.

The RMBMWCCA's Spring Drive route is listed in their latest monthly newsletter. It's a Northern Co route - the same one they've done before. Here's the scoop...

It's a full days drive, with a start/check-in at Co's BMW Center in Loveland Co (right of I-25) at 10am, with a plan to return back by before 5pm. From there to Laramie, WY then south to Walden for lunch at the River Rock Cafe. Then on to Rand, CO on HWY 125 over Willow Creek Pass (a GREAT driving road) ending at HWY 40. Then east to Winter Park (stopping at the Safeway for Ice Cream) then home. A North Park area circuit.

The drive divides the assembled group into 3 sections: Performance, Enthusiasts and Tour groups. Performance group participants will require at least 1 year of Auto-X experience or completion of a BMW Drivers School. Tour will for those mainly interested in a pleasant drive and the scenery/food stops. Enthusiasts group for those in the middle - that don't fit either of the other 2 groups. Each group will have slightly staggered start times, designed so the experience is good for everyone...

There will be an additional Denver gathering point in the morning for the trip to Co's. It will be at the Park 'N Ride lot on 120th Ave at 8:45am.

That's all it says and all I know. I guess more details/instructions will be provided at check-in. (I don't know if you're supposed to register beforehand). Hope that's helpful.

Tom

Thank you for the updated information visionaut, VERY helpful. All of the details can be found in the chapter newsletter (May 2008, page 16);

MotorSport Report Chapter Newsletter Archives (http://www.rmcbmwcca.org/Newsletter/Newsletter.htm)

Additionally, I contacted the event coordinator and asked about non-CCA members participating in the event. He said that non-CCA members are invited to join, the only requirement is the signing of a waiver prior to the drive. He did not mention anything about pre-event registration.

Now that we have all of the event details, hopefully we can clear up our schedules for what sounds like a great event!

No, there won't be a problem. Last year they only needed the reservations so they make sure they have enough doughnuts and coffee in the morning.

I will be there. I have gone on the spring and fall drive before, and it is a blast. This year I finally talked the wife into going. Although she doesn't know that I plan on driving in the "performance" group. Maybe I will take it easy on her and drive with the "enthusiast" group this time.

Wait a minute? RSVP, no RSVP? This issue seems to keep going back and forth. Can somebody with some level of authority on this issue clear things up? If it is indeed necessary to RSVP, with who does this need to be done and by when? Thank you!

I believe you're supposed to RSVP to garyo at northernengineering dot com.

Might be good to let him know who you are, your car, if you're a BMWCCA member & what driving group you're interested to be part of... (There's no specifics on what info to provide him - I sent along the above. Plus I personally told him there's a chance I can't make it, so don't wait for me past the 10am departure from Co's.)

HTH,
Tom

Gladius
05-22-2008, 10:04 AM
Yeah, Gary just posted on the rmc mailing list that he'd like an RSVP. They'll get anything else sorted out before the drive. And yeah, they won't wait for anyone :)

Well today was a shitter, I had my car already to go and was about to head out to the Park and Ride when my pops comes up and asks if I'm "Ready to go" and I was like "On the drive?" And he goes "No. Your sister is graduating today, remember?"

So yeah I got roped into that instead and got my face burned off in the sun.

Fun day.

It's a shame you couldn't make the event, it was a GREAT time, I have never had as much fun with my vehicle as I did today. I really wanted to see your 750iL in person as well, it would have been the only 7 series at the event!

It was nice to meet you guys at Co's... Unfortunately, I got a 'low oil' message just before getting to Laramie, so ended up having to pull over and limp back to Loveland to add a quart at the dealership... No dipstick FTL... :(

I feel your pain. The outer ball joint in the right front control arm on my e46 managed to work lose on the way to Fraser. I ended up babying it the rest of the way home. The e46 is now parked while I get the parts and time to fix it. :(

The e30 is currently pulling daily driver duty. It is nice to have a backup bimmer. :cool
