View Full Version : people with custom trunk setups????
speshuled619 05-19-2003, 03:03 AM how do you guys secure the trunk setup down? how is each panel or wood held in place? im in the process right now of almost finishing my setup but figuring out how to hold it down is confusing me. i know its prob simple but i need ideas. thanks
SQBMW 05-19-2003, 11:43 AM With mine we custom molded the fiberglass so that it is a nice tight fit for all 3 pieces. The side pods will pop out for service of gear or tail lights, but take 5 minutes to pop them out.

i am thinking of going KODAs as well...what do u think of them compared to some other brands? what dyn tweet u using? MD100,130,esotar?..i assume your using the H400 analog and if so do u have a problem with level setting the EQS(the H400 supposedly needs 850mV to get to full output and the EQS will easily supply upwards of 5V....at minimum output gain does the EQS work effectively?) i have only used the H400 with NON audio control equipment and voltage wasnt an issue for me..truth be told 99% of my use with the H400 was full digital using a orion DEQ30 twin 30band EQ...

kevin7909 05-19-2003, 11:50 AM o ya...thanks for the info :)

BMWFAN 05-19-2003, 12:36 PM Everthing in my trunk is secure. The two side panels pop off and the bottom panel lifts up to get the spare out. The side panels are held in place with velcro. The box is screwed to the steel panel behind the seat.
speshuled619 05-21-2003, 06:39 PM thanks for everyones responses.
bmwfan - how well does the velcro hold?
so far it looks like when i cover the trunk setup in carpet that its gonna be a snug fit. so it seems that its all gonna be pressure fitted. but ill try some velcro for good measure.
YaYo325 05-21-2003, 06:43 PM I used industrial velcro for my box and it holds down extremely well, never had a problem. I used velcro cause i was a little iffy about screwing holes into the trunk of my car. I got mine at home depot, i think it was like four bucks for some industrial velcro, gotta love home depot haha.
m lew 05-21-2003, 07:26 PM WOW! My setup is nowhere near the same caliber as what's been posted by BMWFAN and tweetermanager. But FWIW, I humbly offer info about my modest setup: basically one 12" sub in a sealed enclosure. It's bolted onto the rear shock brace with U-bolts purchased from Home Depot.
kevin7909 05-21-2003, 08:42 PM m if u did it yourself, its safe and your happy then i'm sure the mature people here would appreciate seeing it....i know i wanna see it...

Rob
BMWFAN 05-22-2003, 10:38 AM Hey Rob,
I built it myself..so the material ran me about $75.
The speakers and equipment ran me about $700 all off ebay!!
I'm currently changing my setup..I just bought a 500m amp and i'm redoing the whole setup in black vinyl. I'll post picks when I'm done.
Thanks, Johnny

SQBMW 05-23-2003, 01:22 PM Meatbag,
The only electrical upgrade was to an Optima yellow top battery. I've had no issues at all with that as the only upgrade, if we run in to issues down the road I'll add a second battery.
Hope this helps,
Bob
kevin7909 05-23-2003, 01:28 PM tweeter....
thanks for replying to this one...i tell so many people that the alt in the BMW is more than enough for 99% of systems that we would put into one for SQ and u being a winner and restating the FACTS helps my credibility on the issue....thanks again...
Kevin

jmargo 05-25-2003, 12:21 AM Here is my first attempt at a Trunk set up. I will prob. tear it out soon and try to make it lighter.
kevin7909 05-25-2003, 01:12 AM is that a H510 or a H600?...either way it looks nice...neat....i like it...does the carpet your using match the stock carpet?
thanks,
Kevin
jmargo 05-25-2003, 01:32 AM No the carpet is a little off. It looks worst with the flash.
Yes its a 510. This is where I mounted the controller.
BetaTested 05-25-2003, 01:35 AM I'd post my setup but after seeing some of this, I'd feel shameful to do it.
For one it's not even hooked up yet, and for two, it's just a box holding 2 10's with an amp stuck atop of it. Not really custom or anything...
kevin7909 05-25-2003, 02:18 AM Beta:
no shame if u did it man.....u should be proud of whatever u have....trust me, someone will benefit...someone always does....
jmargo:
it looks nice there....i had a h600 but never did pick up a h510...i see u have good equipment tho...my next install will include a pair of EQT's i just got...
Kevin
jmargo 05-25-2003, 12:10 PM Yea I love the fibre optic cable. Keeps the sound nice and clean.
Right now I am running my 14 speaker set-up.
Boston Ac. Pro 6.5, 4, and 2 tweats up front.
Orion 5nt and Tweat in the rear deck
2 Boston pro 2ohm 12's in the trunk.
Jason

kevin7909 05-25-2003, 07:14 PM y 8" and 10w7's? am i missing something? yeah thats the h700...that thing has been releasing 'next month' since late last year...i hope they finally decide to release it...if i wasnt going mostly analog i would have one or the h900...note that the h700 cannot be run 4 way...tweet/mid/midbass/sub.....just an FYI since u mentioned your going 4 way....
