As the title states I think my cats are broken, every time i turn my car on the exhaust sounds like it has a couple of screws just jumping around inside. When I accelerate it makes the same sound. If my Catalytic converter is broken, where should I buy new ones?

ouch, that sounds pretty annoying... I would imagine any muffler shop has new cats, and I also would imagine them being quite pricey...

My car is a 97 and it only has about 58K miles on it. I always thought the cats would die later on.

i only have pre cat o2 sensors on my early e39 so i just smashed the rest of the cats out of my exhaust and it ran alot better :) that definitely sounds like busted up cats to me tho

Sounds like cats to me. The early years have a reputation for them going bad prematurely. Get universal cats and have them welded in, or get 49 state legal cats if you dont live in CA. The dealer charges $1,500 each for OE, plus miscellaneous parts and costs of installation. WIth aftermarket cats, you can get both done for a few hundred.
