View Full Version : '99 323is vs DINAN 635 csi
kherber540 05-18-2003, 08:30 PM Ok...the setting...at a stoplight on a 2 lane road. sitting there. the guy was with his gf in his relatively clean dinan 635 csi, and me with my friend. i had just finished with a cocky little gheyfer in a 280z which was actually pretty quick, but i still became victorious. Anyway....he saw me driving aggressively and new i would be up for a race so he revs and i return the favor with a little blip of the throttle. Granted the ole 323 is stock, it still grunts a little:D
the lights begin to change and the revs go up to 4k so i thought i give the clutch a hard time to get a good launch because i had no idea of this car's ability...especially with that 'little' DINAN emblem on the rear. He also brings up his revs as his gf yells "you're hot!" to me... so that pissed him off.:boobies
the light goes green and we're off....i get absolutely NO wheelspin:alright and it feels great. He didnt spin either and he also got a good launch. at the top of 1st he was at my quarter panel...i can hear him chirp into second just before i shift...through second i gain a half c/l and keep gaining until the top of 3rd which is where i let off and he was 3 cars back! it was a fun race and we both gave a thumbs up and went on. ...the only "mod" i have is a clutchstop...so basically nothing..but yeah.
whatdya think... ?
thanks
kyle:wave:
T-Rex 05-18-2003, 10:47 PM you easily should win, i drove an 88 635CSI/A for a while and they're pretty damn slow :D

kherber540 05-18-2003, 11:58 PM yeah it was a fairly easy kill, but he wasn't THAT slow...i wonder what kind of dinan mods he had because he kept pretty well...plus he was a manual, so it could be slightly different. Anyone know what mods are normal for the e24's? comparable to the normal chip, intake, and exhaust for e36's.
thanks for the feedback

chip intake exhaust :D
they're the same
PBalla 05-19-2003, 05:07 PM fake dinan?
kherber540 05-19-2003, 06:03 PM it very well could have been fake dinan...i didnt have a chance to talk to the guy so i will never know. Considering how the 635 has been said to be slow...it probably had some stuff done.
thanks
kyle
Ron17 05-19-2003, 06:06 PM Kyle,
Why you didn't come to the meet yesterday? :95
BimmerDawg 05-19-2003, 06:08 PM Hey, congrts, Kyle! Good kill! Those CSI's can be pretty quick. There's one in town that I ran against in the old GTI that gave me a hard time.
BTW...where were you on Sunday, mister? :nono
T-Rex 05-19-2003, 06:32 PM if it was an auto those ran about 8.2 0-60, 5 speeds did about 7.4
it would take some serious modding to get a 635CSi as quick as a 5speed 323is with a few mods. That said, the cars were pretty fucking quick to 50, 5.4 0-50 for an auto, 4.8 0-50 for a 5speed

thanks for the interest pasedena

ok...im sure you guys have heard many excuses for not coming to meets...but get this crap.
i wake up and wash my car so that she looked great for the guys:D ...gettin ready to leave at 10 to get a good drive in before i go meet up at andrettis, and my mom hears the door open and close(me sneaking out) and runs down to tell me that i have a graduation party to go to for a family friend:mad:
this seriously just pissed me off so bad i couldnt stand it:complain ...so i say fuck it and still leave when she goes inside, but only to get a call 20 minutes later when she finds out that i left and im grounded for 2 weeks...but that's not all, my god damn birthday is tomorrow so they're gonna be all pissed off on my birthday because i love cars(which is really what it comes down to). All in all...i made a huge sacrifice for you guys and bmw's and risked my freedom for the last week of school and the first week of summer in which this would be happening:boink :boobies
i hope this lets me off the hook...and i am sorry i couldnt make and will be at the next one

Sorry you couldn't make it out to the meet, but things happen. Good luck with that punishment and we hope to see you at the next meet we have. Hopefully next time, you are able to attend, as well as we are able to actually have the mountain drive (stupid weather). :complain:
Happy Birthday, by the way.
jcsomerset 05-20-2003, 01:20 PM My guess is fake Dinan...or just a suspension set up.
Also possibly a tired old engine W/ a wornout top end.
My '84 6er is stock, and I've taken 323's in traffic and on the interstate.
THe E36's and even the E46's are longer and heavier than the old E24's.
I'm not sure what was up with that guy, but I dont think it was a 100% to 100% somehow...
635s arent slow, when i drive my dads 635csi in sports shift mode, it seems like it would give my modded E36 325is a good run for its money.
kherber540 05-20-2003, 06:05 PM yeah guys...this thing was pretty damn fast...granted i won by 3 or more cl's up to 90mph..but still a good, fun race:D

haha..yeah man...i was really surprised too. After she said that i could hear the guy yell at her and she goes..."what..i thought he was hot." I would just slam on the brakes and kick her ass out the door...no lie. it was a win win situation for me though. Won the race and his girl with my incredible sexiness:boink
and ron...thanks for noticing...i got my windows tinted and i took my baffle out of my airbox so it was a good bday:redspot

trust me...he was goin at it, he chirped every gear, my guess is that he wasnt a great driver. Plus the wave at the end...that usually symbolizes if someone got beat at their best.

That is a great kill because the 635csi has 185bhp and
214lb.ft. So either your car is one fast 323 or he was not going WOT. OR maybe the 635csi is just too heavy of a car.
jcsomerset 05-21-2003, 10:52 AM OR maybe the 635csi is just too heavy of a car.
Actually, the E36 and even the E46's are heavier than the E24's
OldSkoolBimmers 05-21-2003, 03:06 PM actually..the 635Csi has 200 hp...224'ish lbs-ft of torque(not sure on the torque)
and yes E36's and E46's are heavier than E24's..E24's just look heavy because they have a long appearance
How can you be grounded? How old are you? You got a 3 series and a 5 series and momma grounds you? WTF?
kherber540 05-21-2003, 06:06 PM yeah dude...i just turned 17 yesterday!! Mom and dad still have control:( ...ill be out in a yr though, i cant wait.
btw..im fixing my sig tonight...i have to upload my new pics with the clears, tint, eyelids, and GEN V DDE's. she's lookin stellar.:buttrock
later guys

ps...he was definately goin WOT...trust me

wrong.....my 635csi/a weighs 3831lbs according to the factory, and my 323is weighs 3075lbs. Thats a BIG difference.
