It looks like the full obc is plug and play for the 6btn obc, just double checking before I go out to the junk yard (or treasure yard!:D)

Well not as plug and play as I thought... It plugs in fine, the button light up, but no read out (yes the lcd is good) and the bin for it is too shallow. Pic.

How the hell do you get the OBC out, haha. I think my tabs are broken, or maybe I'm just not pushing hard enough?

So you're not getting any readouts at all?

As for getting it out, at the upper back side of the bin ther is a lever - just pull it forward.

My 6btn obc had no lights but the read out was visable, on the 16btn no read out at all.

I looked, and the only thing mentioned was coding plugs for the euro models, all others it just said plug in and go.

"should follow the write up on E34.de
it's in german, but you'll understand it looking at the pictures

edit: http://e34.de/tips_tricks/bc/bc4.pdf
page 13 is the plug you need to find under the rear seat and use the fuse to connect the pics.

also there is a plastic "wall" behind the digital clock and the OBC wouldn't fit in it. so the easiest thing is to cut off the "wall". the thing is that the OBC is bigger than the clock"

Found this with some intense searching. I'll let you know how the site is in a few minutes.

I understand the pics, but without understanding German I am lost on where exactly to put that fuse.

Anyone in the know, know if this is the last step in the obc retrofit.

"You have to cut the wire from pin 17 (red/yellow/grey) and connect it to the red/yellow stripe wire. (5a fuse suggested) It'll fire right up. I did mine today!"

Well I'm going back at it today. I'm at a good point to take pics so maybe a short DIY to submit to the mods.

cool, and thanks herb for contributing and keeping us informed.

Well I cut the "red stripe/grey stripe/yellow dot" wire and conected it to the "red stripe/yellow stripe" wire and no dice. Maybe I need to conect the pin end of the "red stripe/grey stripe/yellow dot" wire to the "red stripe/yellow stripe" wire?

Any input would be great, I don't know which wire is pin 17 as they all come out the side.

Well I tried - "red stripe/grey stripe/yellow dot" wire to the "red stripe/yellow stripe" wire. WORKED!!! Just got the PPPP code. I'll take pics of everything then the final product tomorrow.

PPPP means that the OBC isn't getting info. Try unplugging it again or disconnecting the battery. If the lights are out, change the bulbs.

edit: what model is your car? below 525i it needs an additional coding plug (518, 520, 525td, 525tds)

He's US, we never got anything below a 525 here.

Rarely did we ever get a 'value package' IE stripper model here either, since they were 'luxury' cars in the US... rare to find one without the OBC, leather, etc.

herb: according to the 2nd link in the FAQ you will probably have to start the car to get rid of PPPP. Also try just hitting S/R or date/time (I think I got PPPP when I took the OBC out to change the bulbs a couple of years ago and got rid of it one of those ways ) That or unplug the battery for a few minutes so everything resets together.

Well I'll get started here in about 30min, and the battery will get unplugged anyway so I can swap out the fuel sending unit. I'll post back in a bit.
Thanks AE.
