I found out Its good for the DE but cant tell if its ok for the autox's. Im sure it will be fine for 1/4miles as well.

your head = $62.95

I would use one of the BMW CCA loaner helmets.

Will it be acceptable? I dont care if its the best, I just need something that will get me through autox's and DE's. I dont have 300 dollars to spend on a helmet at the moment and I dont believe they have loaners for the DE, maybe the autix they do.

For the DE and autoX, the Boston chapter says it requires a Snell M2000 and up. M2000, M2005, SA2000 and SA2005 are included in this requirement.

When paying more for a helmet you are generally paying for weight, features, ,material and so on.

The SA rated auto helmet the rating is for fire resistance and multiple impact. For example, If you had a roll cage in your car would really need the SA helmet because it is meant for the multiple impacts of hitting your head against a roll bar.

No matter the price, the helmets still have to pass the base line certification to wear the Snell rating. Yes some my pass better then others, and sometimes the cheaper lesser known brands will render better results then i higher priced helmet.

And to answer nick's other question, that helmet will be fine for the 1/4 mile at Epping, Nh because they require the same M2000 and up.

Thanks Rich, are any of yours SA approved? That would probabaly be the only reason why I would need one.

Dan and I both sit on the Board of the Boston BMW CCA and we allocated funds in the last meeting to purchase the driving school helmets which I believe will be stored at HMS.

Nick, why would you need a helmet at NED? I've never used one until I started running my uncle's 04 GTO which runs in the 11s last year.

Q. When do I need to wear a helmet?
A. All racers are encouraged to wear a helmet in competition. Current IHRA rules require all racers, excluding motorcycles, running an elapsed time of 13.99 seconds or quicker must wear a helmet. Motorcycle riders must always wear a helmet. Helmets must meet Snell 95 or new guidelines.

If your car runs 13.99 or lower you need a helmet. Last time I went I only ran a 14.3 but it was my first time and I only got to go twice. My car is def capable of high 13's but it will take practice.

I really only care about autox and DE"s the 1/4 mile is just for when I am bored. :devillook

Every other time I've been I always ran in the 14s to 15s. The GTO is sick flying down the strip. It was scary the first time I did it. It does take practice.

I was going to use this new one but ordered the wrong size, and got a large instead

It is awesome and frightening at the same time. I was just talking to my uncle about taking the GTO to NED and he told me that he would have to think about since the rear diff blew on him back in November.

If its SA approved I might buy it. Maybe I could try it on sometime and see how it is and make a decision but the whole basis of me buying it would be if I couldnt use the one I bought at autox's and other events that require SA approved helmets.
