I just bought a new '07 Z4 s.i. roadster a few months ago and now it's time for some upgrades. I'm looking for increased horsepower, new muffler (racing), and maybe a vertical door kit. I was thinking:

Cold Air Intake
Z4 M Exhaust system w/Z4 M bumper
Vertical Doors
New lower front grille

Any suggestions on which specific parts I should buy and where from?

Thanks,
Mike

Since verticle doors doesn't improve the performance of the Z4 and are really blah, I'd suggest you leave that mod out.

I agree about losing the vertical doors 100%, not only for reasons of the negative resale value impact, but for the significant added weight as well.

I'd go chip, CAI / Ram, 3.64 / 3.91 LSD package, throttle body and exhaust in that order.

...and vert doors are sooooooooooooooooooo 1982 along with negating any advantage your expen$ive performance mods get ya..:rolleyes

But before dissing it, what was the reason you would like them? Did you see a cool looking set on another Z, maybe?

For those who are curious about where I saw the vertical doors on a Z4 here's the link:

I think I will ditch those though, it's not like the Z is ever crowded in a parking space. Instead I'd rather try to get the 0-60 around 4.7 seconds and remove the electronic governor. As Manny34102 suggested, I will definitely look into getting a chip. Where can I find a high quality one for a reasonable price? Regarding other upgrades, if you could tell me specifically which brandnames/websites to look through that would be much appreciated as this is the first time I'm modifying a car.

Thanks,
Mike

In all seriousness you might want to consider trading up for an M, just because you are going to be throwing a lot of money at the car you have just to make it equal to an M in appearance, acceleration, and handling. You're looking at adding M front and rear facias, and dual exhausts - all of which are standard on the M. The 4.7sec 0-60 is what the M pulls stock, and probably won't come from a chip and CAI alone on an si. Soon you'll be looking at changing out the final drive ratios and adding a supercharger. Factor in the extra depreciation that mods on a car can bring, and an M sounds like a better business proposition, especially with the deals you can get on a new '07 M.

Performance parts are one thing, but labor is what gets expensive if you can't do it yourself. You say that this is your first car to mod - I wouldn't recommend learning to wrench on a modern BMW.

There are lots of reasons for choosing a 3.0si over an M, but sounds like you're feeling all the reasons to get an M over an si. I've been down this path of trying to create an M out of a standard model. That's why I bought an M this time.

Edit: I HATE all these Contert Link blue rollovers that look like I'm randomly adding emphasis to phrases in my post.:mad
