I am getting a bit of smoke coming from the driver side even after the engine is shut off. I noticed it today just after I checked the acceleration and the speed.
Any idea what could it could be?
Thanks

It looks like smoke and comes from the driver side only. I am also getting a pre cat sensor timing code cyl 1-4. It may not be connected but thats what I am getting.

How long had the engine been running?
Most of the time it is just water vapor....condensation in the exhaust system cooking off.
If there is no combustion, there is no 'smoke'.

No, but your year car is ripe for that type of code. The pre cat sensor is easy enough to replace if in fact that is the problem. The word 'timing' however, gives me pause. Time for a phone call to your favorite indy....ask him about the meaning of 'pre cat sensor timing'.
By the way, have you bought a motorcycle yet. The price of gas is rapidly approaching $4.00/gallon and so I bought a bike, to ride to and from work every day. I kept the car for the longer runs, the ones I can get 24 - 25 miles per gallon.

I did call the dealership and they were no help. I do not have any Indy that handles European cars even within 5 hours of driving.
I think I should look for a motor cycle but it is still cold here.

I cannot make up my mind about a Harley, Honda or Yamaha. I like the custom cruising style though.

Mine is a 1997 Honda Shadow 600 VLX deluxe. Honda's copy of a Harley, without all the problems....4 gears, about 50 miles per gallon. Seat height is around 24 1/2 inches, perfect forr my short old legs.

The Shadow is a lovely bike. I used to ride a Hawk a long time back. I guess I will go with the Honda again. As you say Jake, they do not give you any problems at all.

Did this only happen once? If it is a continual problem, what oil consumption is noticed? A possible source of "smoke" out of the exhaust, after engine is stopped, could also be indicative of an oil consumption problem on the bank that is producing the smoke after the engine is stopped. While it is running, the CAT, will usually keep the temp high enough to burn out the oil that may have gotten into the exhaust from the engine, but once it is turned off, there is no longer the same high temp extremes that which the CAT operates. It could be burning or cooking off oil residues at lower temp, allowing the smoke to be seen, because it it no longer being fully burnt, but more like a slower simmer, producing the smoke. What odor is the "smoke", burning oil, coolant, etc?

I do not see the smoke anymore. This happened after a very high speed drive I have to admit. I am also getting an error for pre cat sensor timing response. I have not been able to find out what that means so far.
