OK fellas, this is funny (well, at least to me it is).

I am waiting to turn left on a local street (2 lanes) and I see this camaro (newer body style) coming up behind me, purple in color with yellow fogs on. I look to see who's driving it, it's a chick. She looks a bit redneckish, if that's a word? But not really ugly, just a bit outdated. In case you didn't know we get quite a bit of that here in Michigan.

Well anyway, after you make the left the road comes up to a traffic light about 1/4 mile. Just past the traffic light is the Michigan state police post (i.e. not a very good spot for racing). The road at this point is still 2 lanes and it stays 2 lanes for about another 1/4 mile until the right lane merges into the left to form one lane. I am in the proper left hand lane now which isn't required to merge. She pulls into the right lane and gets beside me. As the light turns green, I accelerate moderately (knowing the police stations is coming up quickly) and I see her hit it and try to go past me. Police station or not, I figure I am not in the mood to get toasted by a chick in a camaro. So I get on it and needless to say, she has to merge in behind me once the lane ends. I had her beat by a couple car lengths by 80mph.

Please don't post telling me my story is bogus and I should have gotten killed by that car. I have no idea what the newer camaros are capable of??? But if I should have lost, well, I didn't so chalk it up to bad driving in the camaro. Also, not sure if it was a stick or auto which would make a difference as well.

This girl had quite a puzzled look on her face in my rear view mirror, maybe perplexed would be a better word. Like she was used to owning people on the road and had no idea that she underestimated some foreign make and model. She is probably home now telling her boyfriend (in the Metallica T-shirt, high tops and fashionable mullett) "I need a faster car, some foreign piece with a checkerboard kinda emblem on the hood just blew me off the road. I thought these camaros were supposed to be fast??? What's goin' on Dickey???"

Yeah, that is a great scene isn't it when Joe is smokin' that cigarette with the music playing in the background (perfect to set the mood). The wind is blowing a bit and his hair is flowing, his shirt wrapped around his waist while he checks out one incredibly hot chick that he would have zero chance with were it not a movie.

Actually, it turned out not to be his sister, he just thought it was for a while, and yes it did turn him on. ewwwwwww. But if that was my sister..............no, still couldn't do it (her).

Well then you want no part of living in the Metro Detroit area, there are multitudes of people like that. Mustangs, Camaros, Avengers, rule the road. My BMW is like an endangered species around here.

I'm guessing it was an LT1. I think they have 275hp and the LS1 has 305.

It was a V6... cuz 3-4 car lengths to 80 mph when she got the initial jump off the line... even if it was an LS1 with an auto, you'd be behind her...

could have been an LS1, maybe a 6speed. have you ever mashed the gas while in 6th gear going only 70-80mph in an LS1? the 6 speeds have two overdrive gears, 4th is 1:1 If I remember correctly, 6th is like .5:1 no lie. its nuts. needless to say, it hardly puts the power to the ground for quick passing acceleration.

of course if it was an LS1, and if she had a clue what she was doing with a 6 speed, it would have been dropped to 3rd gear, and the only thing the 99 m3 would be doing is wishing it had another 100hp on tap. so maybe it was only an RS. :-)

Plus, they didn't start at 80 mph, they stopped racing at 80 mph...

I'm a huge fan of the camaro, but mostly rednecks that cant drive have them. they are also always trying to prove themselves like the mustangs and eclipse drivers. :rolleyes: I just don't get it.

Geez. Whats the point of having a 6 speed if 5th gear is already an overdrive.... Gas saving..... If your buying a camaro, your not buying an economy car.
