View Full Version : Got a coupe in production status, need a FAQ
ericld 04-27-2008, 12:45 PM Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum. Recently ordered a 2008 M3 coupe, white, carbon top, partial bamboo, carbon leather, 6-speed, 18" (prefer the ride and look), and every other option.
I'd like to know if there is a FAQ about the production times, what ship is my car on, places to track ships (a friend mentioned there was shipping website), etc. I did a search in this forum and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to annoy the forum with the newbie questions every other day ;)
Some questions I am having are: How long to expect the build. My car has been in production status for about 1.5 weeks. How long on rail? What ship will I be on, how to track ships, etc.
Basically, is there an order FAQ?
Thanks!
emkmd 04-27-2008, 03:12 PM Go to BMWusa.com, http://www.bmwusa.com/
Click on owner's circle, lower left. Looks like the site is down for maintenance right now. You will have to register, and then if you have your order number or production number you can track your vehicle. I used this to track my '03 M3, and am currently tracking my new '08, which unfortunately is still on order and not in production yet.
Post an update and let us know what the status of your car is.

Sure... There are some facts... See next post (Gathering the info)....
Mr. BMW 04-27-2008, 09:37 PM When your order is first accepted by AG you are status 111, and there should be an estimated production week listed. It then goes through a series of order status steps which I have listed following. The first one that means anything to you is 111, then 112, Scheduled for Production. At 150 the order is locked as production is starting. From allocation available until production may be in the order of 6 weeks, plus or minus. Actual production takes only about a week.
Next best is the BMWNA Customer Service line: 800-831-1117. Order Tracking through the website takes a long time to update and is not specific.
057 - Spec. not released - available quota
087 - Order not released for production
097 - Transmission to AG, confirmation pending
102 - Special request order received
105 - No production week available
111 - Order accepted at AG
112 - Scheduled for production
150 - Production started
151 - Entry to body shop - VIN assigned
152 - Entry to paint shop
153 - Entry to assembly
154 - Assembly
155 - Assembly finish / quality check
There are additional codes as the vehicle is shipped.

Mr. BMW 04-27-2008, 09:46 PM For east coast deliveries, the shipping company’s website (Wallenius Wilhelmsen) is http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp. They update their schedule in real-time and changes the color of the ‘stops’ to Red after the ship arrives at different ports, signifying that the ship has docked. My ship took exactly 11 days to get from Bremerhaven to New York City. Sometimes, if your ship reports its status, you can track your ship while it makes its way across the pond. Go to http://www.sailwx.info/ and search by ship name.
For west coast deliveries, the shipping company's website (NYK Lines) is http://www2.nykline.com/home/index.html. You can also use http://www.dbh.de/index.php?id=151&L=0
to track the departure of your ship from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme. Apparently NYK Line doesn't make it easy to find your ship. After that, if you want to know when your ship is planning to dock in San Diego, San Diego Marine Information Systems will give you the arrival schedule for Port Hueneme (west coast delivery) at
http://www.sdmis.org/schedule/.
At Preparation Center
Depending on how much time has lapsed between your ship docking and your car getting off the ship, it may take a while to show up at the Vehicle Preparation Center. A lot of wait times in this area is due to the number of cars ahead of yours, and the time it takes to actually wash off all the foreign soil of every vehicle that comes off the ship. Generally, this takes about 7-14 days.
At your BMW Center
Once your car reaches your dealer, they have to PDI your vehicle, which basically means remove shipping blocks, remove the plastic on the inside, check the vehicle from top to bottom, add any dealer installed options (CD Changer, Tint, Aluminum Pedals etc.) and finally, call you up to come pick up your new baby.
emkmd 04-27-2008, 10:37 PM Great info, but please elaborate. Will BMWNA give me the current code for my vehicle? How do you know which boat the car is on in order to track it?
Thanks

ericld 04-28-2008, 11:51 PM My car has been built and is awaiting transport. The west coast delivery shipping company has a website that doesn't list ANY ships going from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme for the next year!
So i'm stuck not knowing what ship I'm on or how long the estimated shipping times are from Bremerhaven to San Diego.
weird

Let me check to see if there is another ship.
emkmd 04-29-2008, 08:49 PM BMW just changed their site, so it is a little tougher to get to your car. Then the site freezes up my computer. Great.
emkmd 05-19-2008, 07:40 PM The site is working and the car is scheduled for production. I called BMW and they told me it was in assembly, but they would not give me the code. The guy said they no longer can give them out.
