I'm looking for a friend to get his stuff moved out of Amherst, MA and get it to CA. I'm just wondering if any of you had experience with a moving company that would ship stuff from MA to CA, or perhaps some companies that do this for you online... Please help !

I used Mayflower Transit when I moved from Florida to Boston late last year - they were competitively priced with other companies (Suddath, United, and a couple others) and I chose to do all the packing.

I considered using a PODS or other similar service, but didn't feel comfortable leaving a PODS unit outside a major street while I unloaded. That option was considerably cheaper though.

I've used PODS in the past with good experiences...

They bring it, you take your time packing it, and they haul it away to either their warehouse for storage or to your new destination.

you put in what you need shipped, and start and finish destinations, and companies bid to be lowest.

I've worked in a moving company for a short period of time, and this is my advice:
Try not to ship to warehouse in between destinations, some people likes to weight the empty truck really empty, and when it comes back to the scale it's weighted with all the buddies that did the move. We're talking in some cases about a couple thousand extra pounds in your bill...yeah....I didn't like it either.
