I love to drive stick. Not sure if I should buy it for 5 series car from RESALE point of view.

Any Thoughts?

One of the "must haves" on my car was the manual transmission. I am not sure how that will affect the resale value but that is not a concern to me. I will keep my car for at least five years and it will probably have over 100,000 miles by then so the manual transmission will only be one thing affecting the resale value. I buy my car with the options I want, not the options the next owner might want. If I am going to keep a car for a few years I want to enjoy driving it and not sacrificing with the enjoyment because I chose a car that would sell better when I am done with it. Buy it, drive it, enjoy it.

You should get the SMG if available, if not the sport transmission with the paddles. You get the best of both sides. You can go automatic for cruising and traffic situations and then change over to manual with the paddles for sport driving. I think that's the way to go IMO.

buy what YOU want and enjoy the car YOU want. when it comes time to sell, there will be guys like you that only want a stick. from my view, automatics outnumber sticks by a large margin, but there are a large bunch of stick fanatics who will value your car

Having tried them all ... I think the next 5 series will be automatic. For me... the manual throws were way too long and awkward to drive/shift fast. The SMG was too slow even in the `sport` setting. People complained that the SMG was shifting worse than I was in the manual. If they put the M version of the SMG in the 5series, I would get that.

But with the new automatics ... they are lighting fast shifts and downshifts are just as good as the SMG. The only downside is the torque converter, but with all the other positives, I can over look that.
