This is true. I knew a guy who parked in one in front of his bank just to get out and walk up the the ATM. It was two hours before the bank opened, and he didn't even shut the car off, but up rolls teh po-leece, and wrote him up.
His 60 seconds and $60 bucks from the ATM cost him over $200 of a fine. :eyecrazy And that was easily a dozen years ago. The fines have probably gone up by now. :ponder
He didn't park there again, though. :rofl
BimmerDawg 04-25-2008, 02:23 PM Wow, tough crowd today. It's Friday, people. Lighten up.

Wow, tough crowd today. It's Friday, people. Lighten up.
It's been a very long week.
M3Bill 04-25-2008, 02:31 PM You folks are mixing up the issue. I am not referring to the criminal fine that you get when you park in handicapped spot. There are severe state and federal fines (many, many thousands of dollars) when businesses either don't have the required handicapped spots or misuse the ones they do have.
I just forwarded this picture to a buddy in the state enforcement agency to get an estimate of what the fines would be in this instance.
(just kidding)
:devillook

I understand there are separate fines for individuals who park in handicap spots who do not have a handicap permit as well as businesses who allow employees to park in said places or do not have the proper number of spaces, improper signage or markings, etc. The "fine" quote was in response to DW's story and statement concerning the fine would probably be more now for an individual improperly parked in a handicap spot.
Oh and :buttrock nice funny there too.
You can say that again.
Ok, It's been a very long week.
M3forJTB 04-25-2008, 02:39 PM It is indeed a $500 minimum fine for individuals!
A few weeks ago (while working Valet) at an anonymous location, we had the lot blocked off with NO self-parking. We were using Handicap spots as well, being that if anyone was handicapped they would have an easier/shorter walk from the Valet drop-off vs. the H-Cap spots...
Well one 'older' lady didn't see it that way and started causing a scene, reciting ADA and City codes, laws, paragraph #'s etc... then she called the police!
Cops came out and made us move all vehicles from H-Cap spots, (even though nobody could use them anyway!) threatened us and the owners of the location with fines for each car in violation, and sat there the rest of the night to keep an eye on the spots.
Apparently this is no laughing matter and the old 'crips' are very territorial about their spots!
I could care less, but it was a relevant story that (IMHO) was worth sharing :shifty

I *like* getting my sweet tire deals, great service, and nitrogen refills (which reminds me ...) so I wanted to save your loc a potentially career-ending fine.

Those are more of a marketing gimmick appealing to the professional uteri. I've never seen or heard of a legal statute establishing privileged parking for the chronically knocked-up. I expect the worst that could happen if you were found to be parked in one of those spaces is that some waddling gestator might shoot you a dirty look, question the legitimacy of your parentage, or declare you to be an orifice within one's gluteal cleft.
The good news is, you can probably outrun them with little more than a casual stroll. :rofl

I simply have zero pity for the career breeders. That condition has a known cause, known consequences, and several known preventative and/or curative measures. It's not an automatic grant of some kind of supernatural nobility. They can accept the trials and tribulations, or STFU. Either way, I don't see why anyone should get a special parking space just because Johnny One-Eye coughed one up in the entertainment center, and it stuck.
