I am getting some major leaking around my window gasket.
It is time for a new gasket.
Can't find anyone who will do that. I did find a guy that will remove
and install a new window for $275.00 I have a new gasket for the job.
he was recommended to me by some other people. I have no idea what the
job should cost. The 275 is for a brand new window.
How is that for the cost?

Paid $125 for new windshield and Installed my self which took 2 of us about 45 minutes. Price you obtained is fair and there is always the possibility of breaking the old one when removing. That glass is old and brittle.

Make sure you get an "Old Timer" that still knows how to "rope in" a window with the rubber seals and the proper sealant at the corners.

The original windshield in my '81 was delaminating at the corners and then developed a pretty nasty crack right through the visual area on the driver side. I called our insurance company from the glass shop we usually use and they authorized about $155 for the replacement with aftermarket glass. I pointed out that certain aftermarket BMW glass is cut incorrectly and will leak due to radius issues in the bottom corner. The response was to try the aftermarket glass first and then replace with OEM glass if leakage occurs.
Well, the aftermarket glass did not fit very well and felt much thinner and more flexible then the OEM glass. The insurance company authorized replacement with OEM glass, which was just shy of $400 including installation.
Make sure that you find a glass shop that works on construction equipment and heavy duty trucks, they are most likely to have technicians that still know how to rope and set a rubber seal window.
