So the 740 needs a battery, it still has the original with almost 100k miles on it now. Does anyone know where i can get a decent deal on a battery? I knew it was going to be expensive but does anyone know where i can get one under $170?(cheapest so far, Orielly) The dealer was over $200 even with the CCA discount. Does GAP sell batteries? I know of a few people on here that can order from them....

Check parts stores, they put batteries on a heavy discount when they don't sell quickly enough.

My last 2 540i batteries were $20 a piece.

Go to Interstate Battery's site. I believe they have a compatible one, with as much if not more CCA's as the stock one. MPT-91 or something comes to mind can't remember, it's been awhile. I had to get one for my '02 M3 when I had it.

Walmart. Seriously, the yellow EverStart's are great Battery's. I forget, but I think they're made by Johnson Controls.

Probably doesn't mean much but my camper shop service guy told us recently that 4 of 5 batteries he's replaced in RVs lately have been from Wal Mart.

Just sayin.

That's what I thought too, until we had to replace two batteries [EverStart] in two different cars within 6 months. At least Wal-Mart warrantied them.
Try Duralast batteries, ConsumerReports rated it the best battery.

Also if it's a Interstate battery, goto the Interstate dealer since they have specials all the time and you could a core/exchange with your used one. There is one close to you on Buford HWY near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road .

Thanks for all the offers guys, PMs too. I ended up getting one from Orielly for $170. This isnt a normal battery, Very hard to find. I called about a dozen battery places yesterday and there were NONE locally, Interstate and NTB didnt even have them, only the dealer. So i appreciate all the help but i already tried most of the places mentioned here.

And thanks Dan and Brett but i already got one when i got your messages...

Yay the car works again!

FYI, your alternator on the '01 740 is water cooled and much more expensive than the non-water cooled model used in the earlier e38, so make sure you get the right one when you order it.

FYI BatteriesPlus is a great place especially for import and BMW replacement batteries at a good price.
