Hey guys. I'm trying to get the word out early for the San Diego BMWCCA's annual driving school at Buttonwillow Raceway. The school will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 19th and 20th. To register, please go to: https://www.motorsportreg.com/calendar/event.cfm?uidEvent=57C47996-E6F8-710D-CF0040CE0F3A3AC5

This school is extremely fun and very educational. I hope to see you guys there! :buttrock

Buttonwillow Raceway Park
Presents their 20th Annual
Buttonwillow Driving
School & Club Race 2008
Saturday & Sunday, July 19-20

When and Where?
Saturday, July 19th and Sunday, July 20th at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. (www.buttonwillowraceway.com). The track is on the West side of Interstate 5 at the Lerdo Hwy exit between Hwy 58 and Hwy 46. We will drive the track in a clockwise direction, as we did in 2007, on the 3.0-mile layout (including bus stop and Star Mazda turns) with three passing zones. It has some complex combinations, is not too intimidating, is very safe, and is long enough to keep you busy. This is an excellent school track!

What?
This is a high-performance driving school, held under close supervision by trained instructors. We use a racetrack to provide a safe, controlled environment. This is not a racing school. Emphasis will be on safe, smooth, controlled driving. At no time will you be pressed to go any faster than you are comfortable. Participants will be grouped according to experience and, to some degree, model of automobile. If the instructor feels you are in the wrong group, you will be moved. “First timers” are usually classified as novices. The student to instructor ratio will be 2:1.

New this Year !
There will be a club race to watch Saturday and Sunday.

Well, it’s time to register!
We will be opening up registration for this year’s driving school on April 1st. Remember, we will be running our chapter’s first club race so the number of students will be limited to 80 participants.

This is the first year that we will be exclusively using MotorsportsReg. This means that we will no longer have the school application posted in Fahren Affairs or on our web site. If you still need to apply via the old application, please contact Chris May at cmaythe2nd@yahoo.com or call 858-531-8918.

Please register online at http://sdbmwcca.motorsportreg.com. The cost for the school will be $435.00 if you register between April 1st and June 30th. Between July 1st and July 15th, the cost will be $485.00. The price includes two instructed track days, lunches, a raffle dinner Saturday night , and it includes a participant Polo “shirt”.

It will be pretty hot, but still as fun as ever! If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 858-342-5605.
Hope to see you there!
Andre

I'm debating about doing a DS this year but if so, this is on the top of my list (then Infineon or Thunderhill) held by GG Chapter.

Infineon is absolutely amazing. It is very technical and has a reputation of collecting cars in the walls. There is VERY little runoff room, and thus not much room for error. I can't remember if you have gone to the track yet or not. :az If no, I wouldn't do Infineon as a first event. Just my .02

Actually my first event ever was with the LA chapter at Willow Springs (lots of runoff room) yet still people wreck there.

Then I've done Buttonwillow twice (CC chapter, SD chapter). Thanks for the tips.

If he likes it rough I think there are a couple of instructors up to the task... Going through ITS was certainly an experience.

On the other hand, if you're planning on doing Sears Point with GGC, I'd highly recommend it. Your cautions about wrecks are bit misplaced in that venue, IME (10+ years of GGC events at that track).

Now, as to the event in question, I'll be there in the Club Race, bringing up the rear in JP :)

Hey Jim. When I came up to instruct at the GGC's CCC and auto-x back in March I did say to the group that I'd love to do some of the "NorCal" tracks. But @$5/gal of gas and track school entry fees, money is tight. I'm not even doing this event (Buttonwillow - SD chapter).

But I will be at CCC instructing during the DS @Cal Speedway by the LA chapter in late September.

Anybody have any pictures of this past weekend?

The track photographer has all their shots up at the links below:

Saturday (http://vanhap.com/imgs/2008/07%20July%202008/07-19-BW-BMW%20CCA%20SD/index.html)

Sunday (http://vanhap.com/imgs/2008/07%20July%202008/07-20-BW-BMW%20CCA%20SD/index.html)

The only free pics I've seen are only from the club races, if you're looking for shots of your own car on track.
