:( I have a speeding ticket for 10km over the limit... the officer claimed I was going 32 over... so its a bit of a drop. I am in the southern ontario region, and use THE PERSONAL insurance company... my background is flawless, but i am only 23 any idia how this will effect my rates.

btw i was speeding because my abs modual is getting fixed at motomaster in the states... lol i had no idia how fast i was going.

So, your ABS module controls your speedometer?

Any traffic violation would effect your rates, I would imagine. At least, it'd be on record for the insurance company when they re-assess you...

Yes... the abs controls EVERYTHING!!! lol... but ya i know it will effect rates but by how much... i have a like a 40% chance or so of winning if i take it to court, so i want to know if its worth it... like how much of a % increase in rates do you think it will be?

That's for the insurance company to determine. If you have a flawless record prior to this, they'll probably be a little more lenient than someone who repeatedly gets traffic violations.

ie - you'd be less of an insurable risk than someone with a lot of tix.

To specifically answer the question...I have no idea how much they can increase it, if they so willed it. You around the 401?

The only way to find out is to wait 'till your renewal, or call The Personal and ask (yeah, right). If they decide to bump your rates or change your deductable, they will contact you - that's what they did for me when I had two windshield claims within a month and they upped my deductable.

How many points for 10 over? I haven't had a ticket in years. If there's no points, then I don't think you'll get any change from the insurance company.

if he never showed you the radar, than you might be able to fight it in court.

From what I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't tickets weighted a little heavier when you get pulled over on the 401? I lived in Kingston and Ottawa for a while and that was the word around town... I dunno though, I never got a ticket there.

Ohhh, right on. Fter asking a couple buddies who've had speeding tix here...I can't see this ONE ticket effecting your rates...but, then again, your insurance company could be a bunch of sticklers.

First off, if the cop knocked it down to 10 over from 32, pay it and say thank you. 10 over is minor, no points, and you won't likely win. Besides, if you try to fight it, the judge will see the cop's notes saying you were clocked at 32 over and suggest you were fortunate to get a nice cop.

Secondly, most insurance co's will not bump your rates for one minor ticket. Don't sweat it, but don't get caught again for 3 years.

1o over aint shiat, its a 55 dollar fine or something and your laughing... your insuracne shouldnt reflect this charge, they may not even check your abstract. even if they do, the consequences should be minor, in fact it shouldnt show up at all...one ticket aint nothing.

dont let anyone else tell you otherwise, take it from someone who has gotten a FU@KLOAD more tickets than anyone else i know. took YEARS for me to finally clean up my record to a 5 star. its when you see 3-4 violations, then you start to get it in the pooper. REMEMBER that ANY infractions that add up to 9 demerit points can lead to a suspended licence...definitely a meeting, where you have to take a DAY driving course, where they can once again decide whether or not to suspend your card.

You automatically hit the demerit system with any ticket 15 and over.

summary, the cop...was KILLER nice to you, at the very least...they give you the mandatory 3 points because they know THAT wont usually effect your rates either AND they can hit their quotas. Personally, fight it if you want...may not be a big deal, but remember that a POLICE OFFICER has 6 months to alter the scale of the offence. so if he FELT like it, cause you wasted his time going into court when he already reduced it...he could turn around and charge you with the full offence.

if i had a clean record like you, id just leave it alone...call it a day. just make sure that you are well aware of your offence, if no demerits are involved...no need to take it any futher.
