When I bought my 2004 M3 (very recently) there was a small sticker on the windshield (placed there by the dealer) with a note "for service call . . . whatever" and when I peeled it off, there is a healthy nick in the windshield - drivers side in line-of-sight. I call the dealer and I don't accuse them of concealing the damage because I want to be mr. nice guy and they say "Don't worry, we'll get it in when the glass guy is here and he can fill it." Fine; I took it in yesterday and go to pick it up and the gentleman there says the "glass guy" says he can't fill it as it is too deep - they are checking with the General Manager to see if they will give me a new windshield. Now, I notice the "nick" in the glass is now at least twice as big and looks like if I tapped the windshield with by palm it woud probably spiderweb accross the entire length. I am still waiting for this "GM" dude. I hate this!
