Still, those cars look like they would be fun as hell to drive. Though I have flown 'Vettes, Chargers, S2000s, etc (Used to work on a car lot). I never got the chance to sit behind the wheel of one of those. Right after I quit they got one in a month later... :(

Bah, fwd isn't very fun. Drove 4 rwd cars before the tercel. It's like driving a small, hyper asian man. The ford was like a bear (was either 2wd or 4wd, low or high gears), and the 6 is like a large, evenly balanced, German woman. The 142 just felt like an iron deathtrap, but it killed a mustang with barely a dent (broke a bunch of steering components though)

Mini's are ultra fun. I just wish they were RWD, but I suppose the size of the thing makes that a bit of a challenge. The funny thing is, my wife and I were joking that when we get done with restoring the M6, it'd be great to have an original Mini to go along with it! haha that'll be a long way off in the future...

No question in my mind that that Mini would be a blast to drive. They're good cars, well made, well optioned, and quite spirited in the right hands.

Well, we decided to keep her for now. I'll tell the full story at some point soon, but the gist of it is this: we started out looking for a beater bimmer with a back seat, and ended up with the M6! And as you know, it has sucked us in. Honestly, if I had set out looking for an M6, I would have looked for an M635 or an 88/89 M6. Most likely the latter. Now that I'm on the verge of committing to 100% M6 restoration--see my new and improved username!--there's a part of me that wishes I had an 88. But I don't want to start over with the work that we've already put in this car. That said, I'm a bit annoyed that my re-upholstered front seats don't see to have the exact right shade of Lotusweiss. :mad

Bumpers can be converted and that is not a difficult conversion.

You say the seats do not have the right shade. Where did you get the uph. done? Has the rest of the interior faded?

From what I've read, it's really difficult to do a bumper conversion from pre-88 bumpers. Has anyone done this? Any idea what the cost is? Everytime I come across a thread on the subject, the bottom line seems to be that it'd be too difficult to do.

My seats were done by a guy who specializes in upholstery restoration--I waited a long time for his schedule to free up because he does a lot of work for cars that go in competition at concours events. Last year, he was busy with stuff for Pebble Beach until September. The rest of my interior has faded to a much whiter shade than the new seats, so maybe that's what I'm reacting to. My seats are most definitely not what I would call white, but I wouldn't call them tan or beige either. They looked so nice and new when I first picked her up that I didn't really notice the slight difference.

i just get angry because the generalization that i made refers to the people in the area that always drive like they are blind and retarted and or cause the accidents.. ive seen people wreck and still not end their cell phone conversation.... makes me want to rip their hearts out

I never said my wife was a good driver or that the description didn't fit. I just said she would beat you to submission if you say it to her.:D

I used to keep painted bumpers in the garage ready to go on her car and could change them out in short order.

We call her wreck'em Rosie for a reason.

It should be the simplest conversion as it is all bolt on parts. Cost is going to depend on what you find unless you use new parts. The best way to do this is to buy the complete assemblies as opposed to piecing it together. Check with Steve Haygood because I think he was parting out a world bumper car recently.

One of the threads I've come across regarding bumper conversion is this one: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5248&highlight=bumper+conversion

There are others, but they all essentially say the same thing: that it's not a simple bolt on job. I'm not saying that you're wrong--I would LOVE if if you're right--it's just that it seems the opposite of what I've come across on the various boards.

Good choice, I would love to have a Cooper type S. But then again, I would like to have an "original" Cooper Type S. Yes, I do remember them, amazing what those little boxes could do.

Becareful and pay close attention to what is said there. You have someone from the UK posting about converting from euro bumpers to world bumpers which is difficult because of the reasons stated but this does not apply to you. Then there is mention of converting from US bumpers to euro which again is possible but not a simple task. You want to convert from US bumpers to Word bumpers which is a straight pull part and replace affair as long as you have all of the parts. If you get all of the parts, no fabrication or modification is necessary.

You will need the front and rear bumpers. The filler strips, bumper extensions, mounting hardware and spoiler with brackets and fog lights. Maybe a few small bits and pieces but it is very possible.
