Working on my 79 633CSi Euro and getting her ready for the road for the first time since fall. I am doing some routine maintenance and was pulling the sending unit from the tank to clean the screen when I noticed something inside the truck just opposite the fuel door. It is a fuel door lock mechanism. My fuel door has never locked but there is a plunger on this mechanism that sends a rod into the fuel door to lock it. Looking online, I see nothing about this. I also have no switch anywhere that actuates this??? I haven't traced the woring down yet because I wanted to ask you all first.
Ideas? By the way, no power door locks but have power windows. I just saw somewhere here in the forums that it may lock when locking the doors??
Thanks,
Chris

The fuel door locks automatically when you lock the car doors IF you have power door locks. The trunk locks at the same time. The part you found in your trunk may have been from the PO, wanting to install the feature. If it isn't wired for power locks, I doubt if you can make it work with the key withouit alot more mods.

Hmmm....my fuel door doesn't lock either. Just noticed it yesterday and I have power locks on my car as well. Anyone know how to fix this?

I thought they all had power locks which included the fuel door and trunk.

Replace the actuator? Check to see if it is getting power to it and then you will know which way to procede.

Weird thing is that it is wired and from the looks of the boot and rod, it "appears" that it used to function??

Why do you say that you do not have power locks? Have you checked the door to verify that the actuators are not there. When you are inside the car you activate the locks by depressing the button on the top rear edge of the door. To unlock, you pull up slightly on the inside handle. There is not a seperate lock/unlock button. If it is not working, you should look for electrial issues first and then go from there. Check for power and condition of fuses.
