Purchase and Delivery:
A couple of week ago my car started to make a faint “marbles in a can” sound so I decided to give Dr. Vanos a try and purchased a stage one kit. Prior to this purchase I contacted Chris to ask about delivery time and the core exchange. To my surprise I almost immediately received a response that answered my questions. I placed my order using my PayPal account and mistakenly used an old checking account that didn't have sufficient funds. The transaction was somehow completed and Chris shipped the unit as promised and I received it as planned.
Installation and Performance:
The unit seemed new (very clean) and simply was rebuild much better than my old unit and surely better than the OEM design. The tolerances on the shaft was much tighter that my 41,000 mile unit.
The installation was straight forward and only took me about 45 minutes to complete. The engine that it was installed originated from an automatic 1998 M3 Sedan with 41,000 miles and recently had a totally refinished head (valves seals, decked ,etc.) Once installed the noise mentioned earlier was totally gone (worth the purchase price alone), but I also noticed a HUGE gain in the mid-range and the top end. Keep in mind that this engine was installed in a 1995 318ti and had an OBD I conversion with a chip and M50 manifold. The car was already fast enough to give some supercharged 330i’s and M5s a run but now it was unbelievable.
Customer Service: Well I had to place a stop payment on the transaction through PayPal which in turn caused them to open a case and freeze the funds. Long story short it took over two weeks for Chris to get his money for a product that he had already shipped. He contacted me, we discussed the situation and I told him that I would keep him updated. He was never upset or sent me any type of demand for payment. He simply said that we should wait for PayPal to resolve the issue. I even offered to send him another payment to cover the cost until the issue was resolved, and he declined.
Overall I am very happy with my overall experience with Dr. Vanos and I hope that this thread will help others in the future.
Anyone else have a story to share about the product or service?
