Ahh, Miami, the land of perpetual summer and Merc drivers with attitude beyond the capabilities of their cars. Or maybe I just rubbed this guy the wrong way?
I am exiting the only turn in town at a quicker than most, slower than my usual, speed, i.e. around 45 as I pull up to a "CLK-?" in the inner lane. He must hear the climbing RPMs of my M3 as I am well into 2nd gear. He looks over, gives me a look of disdain and punches his car. I hear lots of engine noise to my left, but it's clear his auto tranny hasn't yet caught up with his right foot, as I get a 0.5 car length jump on him almost immediately.
I quickly finish what's left of 2nd and select 3rd, planting my foot yet again. The Merc gains ground and we are door to door. I look over and give the guy a thumbs up and he gives me a "drop dead" glare, WTF???? However, he's reached the end of whatever gear his auto tranny is in, and I move ahead by at least a car length as his auto tranny has shifted into a weak torque range.
I assume he's enjoying the view of my tailights as I am approaching the end of 3rd. This particular road is thankfully devoid of the usual randomn traffic this AM, so I enter the twisty section at speed and he's falling *way* back. Now, don't beat me up guys, but at this point I flash my hazards just to repay his crappy attitude like-for-like.
So, I beat a "CLK-?" from a 45 - 75 roll, for good measure slaughtered him in what in Miami passes for a "twisty" section, and flashed my hazards. Question is, was it a CLK 430 or a CLK 320 . .. it all happened so fast I honestly don't know which, but I'm guessing it was the 430.
EDIT:
Originally I thought it was the lowly 320, but after talking to the guys in the office, the overwhelming comment was "Why would a guy in a 320 even bother?? Had to be a 430." Plus, the Merc did reel me back in up to the point his auto tranny had to shift; I find it hard to believe a 320 would gain ground considering the jump I had . . .
