I remember being charged a flat fee for customs brokerage when I had something shipped via UPS to Canada from the USA. I was wondering what others' experiences are. Does UPS always charge a brokerage fee, or does it depend on whether Canada Customs levies a duty, etc.?
Thanks.

Harris,
The brokerage fee is $50CAD...when I originally mailed stuff from the US, I was not told by them that there would be a brokerage fee...it was only when the items arrived at my door in Vancouver, did they present to me the bill concerning the brokerage fee...I think the brokerage fee is only charged *if* the items are opened/checked at the border...if the items clear without incident, a brokerage fee is not levied...
I bought a camera on EBay for $80 USD, and was charged $72 by UPS after I had paid shipping and everything. I've still not paid UPS and will not use them for across border shopping. I pick all my stuff up at www.thelettercarrier.com

Hey CJ, how did you not pay UPS? I thought you had to pay to take delivery of the item? Thanks.
