Hi ,Im new to this forum .I am seeking advice for my 1988 bmw 735i 3.5 liter. My problem is that the car overheats 5 minutes into warming it up. It just started today. The car has 153,000 miles and the temp gauge always stayed half way until now.Now the the temp gauge goes to the red line.:confused
thanks

The first thing to check would be the thermostat.

The first thing to check would be that you are not low on coolant. If you are there may be air trapped in the lines. If coolant level is good, either thermostat is bad, coolant is not flowing, or the head gasket is blown.

Happend to me just today, check your coolant levels, make sure hoses are in tact a hose of mine broke, but check the thermostat as well.

almost half of the mechanical problems on this forum seem to be the coolant lately :confused
