I've started picking up LBF failures on my aftermarket HID lights and spent some time debugging the problem. A certain percentage (10-30%) of people get these fault codes. Mine worked fine for several months and then started faulting and not lighting. After ruling out bulbs, ballasts, igniters, I convinced myself the problem was cruddy wiring.

Now I'm wondering if the problem might be traced to the battery in my vert - original battery in a 1998 323. The car starts fine - I've never had a problem there. But I'm wondering if some of the lighting related failures that people get are due to weaker batteries. Is there a way to check status?

If the battery is starting the car, I don't see it as being a factor in the LBF warning. System voltage with the engine running should be 13.6v or better is the alternator is working properly. A fully charged battery only reached 12.6v.

The faults and the lights not working point directly at your aftermarket lighting.

if your battery is really 10 years old, you might as well replace it anyhow. Batteries are usually only good for 4-5 years. you're running on borrowed time at this point.
