Hi guys, I recently bought my first BMW a 1990 535i and have no clue what the RC--> on the turn signal function is, if the key is on and you push the turn signal lever in the following appears on the dash Maximum ********MPH.
Does anyone know the best place to buy the windshield trim?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I'm going to assume that your car also has the full OBC in the dash, right? (see image below)

If you have the above OBC (or one that looks similar)...BMW also designed the CCD (Check Control Display) that is at the bottom of your intrument cluster...to be able to also display all or any of the features from the OBC in the CCD display as well.

"BC" stands for OnBoard Computer...and if you follow the procedures outlined in the owners manual...by pressing & holding the turn indicator stalk inward toward the steering column...you should see PROG 1 or something like that appear in the CCD. You then can press any of the OBC features you would like to be able to display in the CCD. What ever order you press, that's the order they will appear in the CCD with each press inward on the turn indicator stalk. When you're done...just press the S/R button. If you want all of the OBC features to display in the CCD...just press the stalk until PROG 1 appears then press the S/R button on the OBC.

Let me find the section of the owners manual for you that explains remote programming the OBC features into the instrument cluster:

(below are the instructions from my e38 owners manual which are basically the same (but written simpler)...just substitute MID for OBC...and SET for S/R)

Here's a web based e34 owners manual: http://luuk.xs4all.nl/bmwboeken/bmwe34manual/

BTW, congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum. :D

Oh yeah...don't freak out if the BC features disappear from the CCD (display in the instrument cluster). It's first priority is to the Check control system and the Priority 1, 2, and 3 warnings. If any of those warnings register a fault etc...it will take over the display. That's why the OBC stuff disappears at every start up...the Check Control System runs a check at each start up...plus you will get KEY IN IGNITION, or LIGHTS ON, of FASTEN SEAT BELT...which all will remove any OBC features you have programmed in...which makes you have to tap the indicator stalk to bring the OBC stuff back (but only if there's not a Priority 1 warning from the Check Control System ). :)

Thanks guys, this is very helpful, mow for a really stupid question. When I bought this car it had a blown radiator and head gasket. Installed a new radiator and a used engine with 105K even after adjusting the valves you can hear a mechanical noise in the top end at an idle. I've had several people tell me this is normal? as a15 year GM mechanic this don't jive, but hey its a BMW :D I would love to hear your guys opinions on this

Did you re-torque the oiler bar bolts?

Unless the bolts were replaced with the new design bolts that do not need to be retorqued, then you should have ... they come loose ...

Is this know to cause a top end rattle?
