I can't decide on which full coilover suspension I want to buy, anyone have any ideas or recommendations. The cost does not matter, I want the best.

Quadruple adjustable Motons are barely adequate. dcf 04-20-2008, 06:31 PM On this board, even the sultan of Brunei should not say cost is not an issue. Yes motons would be awesome, but around a five figure outlay. Moton is not just something for track use only, I would say for competitive use only. The most popular choices these days seem to be KW (v2 or v3) and billstein PSS10 (or older pss9). The people who really want to lower their cars and keep them mainly on the street are big on the KWs (can get that "slammed" look nicely with these). Track folks seem to like Bilsteins. There are others out there, but the first thing you need to ask yourself (and fill us all in on) is what you are going to do with the car. nick325xit 5spd 04-20-2008, 09:48 PM On this board, even the sultan of Brunei should not say cost is not an issue. They're a pure street setup with major travel limitations. dcf 04-21-2008, 09:37 AM Track folk by and large do NOT like the Bilsteins. They're a pure street setup with major travel limitations. Wow, surprised you said that, because everyone I know (myself included) feels just the opposite, that the KW are pure street and the bilstein pssX are the track setup. I am not sure what you mean by a travel limitation, but on the track that is a non issue as you only need long travel on the street (potholes, speed bumps, etc.) So, even if there is some travel limitation, it is not a big deal as you only have them moving a small amount anyway. The PSS9 (have not played with the 10 yet myself) have the adjustment settings in great spots for track setups. You just need to take your time to dial them in. Hey, everyone has an opinion, and everyone has their own preferences, that is why there are so many choices out there. What do you like for the track? nick325xit 5spd 04-21-2008, 10:13 AM Wow, surprised you said that, because everyone I know (myself included) feels just the opposite, that the KW are pure street and the bilstein pssX are the track setup. Hey, everyone has an opinion, and everyone has their own preferences, that is why there are so many choices out there. What do you like for the track? Long droop is not important on track, but extra BUMP travel IS. The PSS9/10 don't improve your bump travel, which means that you can very easily end up riding the bump stops all the time. And that doesn't even get into those tracks where the fast line is over the curbs. Personally, my current favorite suspension is the Vorshlag AST 4100 setup for a street car that is used on track. (I've got my second set of them coming to go on this M3.) I'd pick either Ohlins, JRZ or a higher end AST for a dedicated trackrat on which I wanted to spend some extra money. I'm using a GC Advanced-Design suspension on the race car, which is decent but not wonderfully reliable and which makes all kinds of nifty squishy noises. As for the KWs, I have no opinion. In case you were wondering, I've used the following: Moton Clubsports Moton Triples (not mine but drove on them a LOT) TCKR D/A GC Advanced-Design Vorshlag AST 4100 Bilstein PSS9 (not mine) H&R Sport Springs w/Bilstein Sport Shocks (absolutely horrible) ///M3Matt 04-21-2008, 11:48 AM No bilsteins for the track. Have them on the street car but stick to ohlins/motons for track activfoxy 04-21-2008, 12:43 PM can someone tell me how does TCK perform on track? pastE36prsntE46 04-21-2008, 12:44 PM This vehicle will most likely be for street use, and my next one will be track. Haven't decided yet if I want to use the new e93 for track, but that is another topic. So, I guess for street use then. pastE36prsntE46 04-21-2008, 12:45 PM Also, I always notice the arguement with german cars about Bilstein, yet with Jap cars Tein.....so why not vice versa? nick325xit 5spd 04-21-2008, 02:20 PM can someone tell me how does TCK perform on track? Well. Not the top performing suspension, but nice ride quality and good handling and good value. 99mcab 04-23-2008, 03:00 PM what coilovers are the lowest? how low do they go front and back? |
