Had my radio out to install my new Alpine and decided to look at the bulbs in my OBC (button backlight was out when I bought the car) so I popped the sucker out. Bulbs seem to be okay, so I gently scratched off some nicotine buildup from the previous heavy (!!!!) smoker owner, put it all back together, plugged it in, 100% dead. Except the turn signal click method still gets info just fine, so apparently I've just killed the bulbs? Worse? Advice?

Make sure you didn't blow a fuse. The cluster display and the OBC are on the same circuit. I blew mine when installing my gauges.

OK, I'll check fuses.

Hope I didn't kill that display, it was nice having it back after my last one died.

yeah for some of the older board members, " oh noes" brings back memories, both good and bad. that poor 540/6.

To think I offered to help him swap an engine in one of his cars....

Replace the bulbs first before buying a whole new unit. Chances are they were on their way out, and you killed them the rest of the way while removing or installing the unit. I've had weird stuff happen with my OBC on both cars, and bulbs are like 5 bucks, so it's a much cheaper and easier route. You'll need needlenose pliers to remove the bulbs from the sockets. Good luck.

:lol:lol Same here. My OBC is doing the same thing. It worked fine then the screen went dead the next minute. Whatever. The dash display still works so it's all good for now.

I used needle nose to get the old ones out, and I'm sure they're factory (read: 13 years old) so we'll see. FWIW a 10 pack is $10 at BMA, already on the way.

And I didn't know the "Oh Noes" history, sorry about that!!! :eyecrazy:eyecrazy:eyecrazy

My OBC just "died". I was playing with it then went to lunch and when I came back out after lunch and started the car the main screen didn't work. I had a MPH limit set and the MPH LED was on and the limit still worked. The turn signal switch still worked as well.

Bulbs?

Yeah, bulbs. Got new ones today, works great, no fuss. The dead ones don't look "dead", but they sure as he11 don't work and the new ones do. Go figure. :)
