View Full Version : Waterpump Price 540 DRIVER 04-19-2008, 03:29 PM sup guys, just wanted to know if $520 is a reasonable price for waterpump replacement on my 540 and yeah the o-rings and fluid is included fuddyduddy121 04-19-2008, 04:58 PM I just paid $625 for mine at a reputable indy. FP5241 04-19-2008, 05:03 PM Diy Ftw!!!! dgz32 04-19-2008, 06:56 PM ^^ No kidding. If you don't mind doing the work yourself, have the tools and space, and are so inclined, you can save a considerable amount of money. I just purchased (among other things) a water pump for $122.85, gasket for $2.33, and a gallon of BMW coolant for $15.02 from Crown Auto. |dg 540 DRIVER 04-19-2008, 07:00 PM well guys i bought the car a month ago with a driverzedge warranty that covers my cooling sys so thats why im not doing it myself dgz, what part of atlanta are you in and have you replaced your waterpump before or is it your first time? FP5241 04-19-2008, 07:27 PM if it has a warranty, why would they charge you? :az dgz32 04-19-2008, 07:35 PM I'm in Marietta. First BMW for me so it's my first WP. I'm also doing a poop-ton of other things as well...struts and shocks, fuel filter, valve cover gaskets, plugs, manifold gaskets, CCV, throttle body gasket, valley pan reseal, water pump, thermostat, fan and fan clutch, belts, blah, blah, blah. Right now I'm waiting on valve covers to get back from powdercoating, so that I can get on with everything (should be late next week, early the next). But...it's a third vehicle for my wife and I so I'm taking my sweet time, and cleaning things up as I go. Where are you located? BTW, there's a huge BMW crowd in the Atlanta area...check out the Georgia regional forum. I've met up with a couple of folks but haven't attended any of the meets yet. |dg 540 DRIVER 04-19-2008, 07:40 PM if it has a warranty, why would they charge you? :az no i was just curious because its an ASE certified shop but i thought that the price is kinda low and so my warranter gave me the option of taking it to the dealership but the dealership is like 50 miles away and they are not paying for my car to be towed again so i was just curious. but no i dont have to pay a dime for anything so i encourage people to get an extended warranty especially for these cars, so im cool 540 DRIVER 04-19-2008, 07:42 PM I'm in Marietta. The PO had already installed 2001+ halogen headlights, M-Par reps, shift kit, and brand new cross-drilled rottors w/pads. So that stuff was a really nice bonus. I've since installed a weighted ZHP shift knob, removed the CDV, replaced broken cupholders, claybar/wax, and a few other things. Oh, and I just purchased tires. As you can tell, I'm in the 'getting everything back to spec' mode at the moment. Reg the lights, I've toyed with the idea of installing xenon, but am wrapped up in all the maintenance stuff for now. But, I'll probably do that eventually. What about you, have any pics?? |dg gmobile 04-19-2008, 08:00 PM I just bought a Geba water pump from BMA for 55 bucks. This is my first BMW and I changed the water pump in about four hours. The trickiest part was getting the fan shroud and clutch off. After that it's a piece of cake. I'll bet the next time I could do it in about two. $520 sounds a little steep to do just a water pump. Sounds like you are replacing a whole bunch of stuff down there anyway. Are the also charging you individually to do the belts, thermostat, fan clutch etc? For $520 I could fly down there from Canada, install a new pump, fly home and still make a profit. I know it's under warranty but WTF? 540 DRIVER 04-19-2008, 08:09 PM We bought the car back in Jan of this year. I know it's under warranty but WTF? i could do it myself but then the warranty company wont pay me because im not ASE certified so thats why and no there are not replacing the fan clutch or belts just the pump, o-rings, and fluid oh yeah and the labor because they swear it is a 5 hour job dgz32 04-19-2008, 09:08 PM ...did you get your clutch situation squared away I think so. Seems to be that the notchiness and more effort required to shift goes hand-in-hand with a SSK. So, I live with it. |
