iranmeba 04-19-2008, 02:27 PM borrow a jack from ur neighbor?
DakarE36 04-19-2008, 02:36 PM home sweet home. don't be ghetto.
Spieluhr 04-19-2008, 03:22 PM well the trouble arises that my 96 328is has that STUPID black plastic oil filter housing cover, which got all knawed up by the PO, making it all by impossible to get the damn thing off, need a oil filter wrench, which I dont have, nor do I think my neighbor has. I finally bought a replacement, but its still a matter of getting it off first.

In that case, I'd recommend using a rubber strap wrench like this:

All of you guys should also now know that a jack is not necessary. Rhino ramps are 10x better for quick and easy oil changes:

super lightweight and can easily be stored in your trunk if necessary.
Both of these items can be purchased for dirt cheap at any Schucks, NAPA, Checker, etc.
Spieluhr 04-19-2008, 03:42 PM F my life, alright I think you just convinced me Dakar, I'll order the filter online tonight, not paying $20 at Schucks for a damn oil filter

$20... ouch! Dealer only charges like $11-12 for an E36 Mahle filter. Bummer you're up in B'ham. This oil change deal is cake. You've made the right decision :buttrock:buttrock:buttrock
Stealthyfish 04-19-2008, 05:16 PM don't you need to have the car be sitting up straight for all the oil to drain out? How would you do that with rhino ramps?
turbodefrost 04-19-2008, 05:31 PM hey man glad to see you in the PNW section. I'll gladly lend you a jack, oil bucket, socket that fits the plastic housing, and even a garage if you need one. Come on the meet tomorrow!
krowl 04-19-2008, 05:56 PM Those ramps are so nice. I have a pair of them.

NO. perhaps you should look at the location of the oil drain plug next time you're under your car. It's located towards the rear of the oilpan for a reason.

Come to my house, I have the ramps and a drain pan and a place to put the used oil. I'll help you out. Save your money. Buy the filter and oil and drop me an email.
Spieluhr 04-20-2008, 02:22 PM wow, thanks for all the support guys! I'll definately be hitting ya up when the filter comes in the mail!
