so i have a 2000 540i and i was reading up on the clutch and why it is so jerky to drive because of this CDV. if i just remove mine and drill out the restrictor will this work as well as a new CDV. how big should i drill the hole? or should i just spend the $30 at Bavauto and get a new one? does it actually make that big of a difference when driving? or to see a huge difference would i need to buy a new performance clutch?

A search should lead to much on the subject. I recommend simply removing it.

Just remove it but be careful when adjusting the lines in with the part gone.

Listen, carefully:

DO NOT drill out your CDV. YOU MAY remove it and bend the lines so that they match just so...if you mess this up, its bad. Get the one that is pre-modified.

This mod is known to make a HUGE difference.

Trust me, you'll love spinning the tires when you hit 2nd when you're trying to make her move.

As others have suggested, removing it completely should be no problem. You just have to be careful when bending the clutch linen into its new position.

Bavarian http://www.bavauto.com sells a "dummy" valve so you can remove the CDV without risking damage to the lines -- search for "clutch valve".
