View Full Version : Is this car lower than standard bmw840 04-18-2008, 10:17 AM I am just curious if my car was lower than stock, can you tell by looking at those pictures wayneblackwell 04-18-2008, 10:29 AM I would say no, looking at my standard ride height http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd74/wayneblackwell/1-4-2008001Medium.jpg 840rod 04-18-2008, 11:36 AM First pic looks like a "no" ... the second, to me, looks like a "I don't know"... hmmm... Yo, Rod Toy72 04-18-2008, 12:13 PM Nice stance, but I don't think so... rockytt 04-18-2008, 01:52 PM I would also vote no - If it is a bit lower than standard it could just be due to saggy springs Koizumi 04-18-2008, 01:58 PM Saggy springs is common. Every 8 I saw before I bought mine sagged. prit singh 04-18-2008, 03:22 PM Good Evening Mine is so low its hard to go over any bumbs and also a mission to get out of my drive! I have checked my springs and they are fine. I believe my front lip spoiler is lower than standard as it looks like a scoop. Ahmed303 04-18-2008, 03:44 PM Maybe it's not the springs but the Shocks. The rear looks stock but the front wheel well gap looks less than stock. rockytt 04-18-2008, 06:06 PM Except that shocks don't really affect ride height - their purpose is "merely" to dampen the up and down movement - hence the more correct term "dampers" rockytt 04-18-2008, 06:08 PM I have checked my springs and they are fine. You have the CSI nose on yours, don't you Prit? That one is about an inch to an inch and half lower than than stock. Also, are you front springs stock or aftermarket? And (I have to ask-) how does one check a spring w/o removing it from the vehicle. (This is an honest question, not a challenge) wayneblackwell 04-18-2008, 06:14 PM Prit, I sometimes struggle with some steep drives, but bumps (do you mean speed humps?) are no problem, but then I haven't got the amount you have in London to cope with, the only solution is to drive slowly and let everyone admire your car while going over the bumps. bmw840 04-18-2008, 06:45 PM Maybe it's not the springs but the Shocks. The rear looks stock but the front wheel well gap looks less than stock. Ahmed. My front look lower than stock and I can tell that the previous owner replace the shocks in the back. I am measuring the front of the side skirt before the wheel at 6" and at the rear 6.5" ??? Joseph Koizumi 04-18-2008, 06:56 PM And (I have to ask-) how does one check a spring w/o removing it from the vehicle. (This is an honest question, not a challenge) They should be a different color than black, or there's lettering. You def. don't have to remove it from the vehicule, just crawl under there and take a peek. 840rod 04-18-2008, 07:16 PM Except that shocks don't really affect ride height - their purpose is "merely" to dampen the up and down movement - hence the more correct term "dampers" Right on ... from what i know ... shorter shocks would just bottom out on travel, unless you used them to compress the springs, which would suck on rebound. Atleast in the rear of my car. viperrt10 04-20-2008, 03:24 PM looks to me like the stock ride height prit singh 04-20-2008, 05:54 PM Hi Rocky The csi bumper and kit are standard on 840ci Euro models after a certain year. My front Bumper has been rebuilt and repainted as is like that since i bought it. Compared to other 8 it is slightly lower like a large scoop and half moon shape at the bottom. This is where it is low. The springs have not been removed but compared and the car has been looked at by experts. They are original motorport springs and the whole suspension is very solid with no sagg. Kind regards Prit |
