TerryY 04-17-2008, 12:04 AM Some of us don't feel the need to carry spares :) carspainc.com 04-17-2008, 12:22 AM Some of us don't feel the need to carry spares :) the spares are called 'limp-home mode' :) Toy72 04-17-2008, 01:50 AM :lol 323I Junkie 04-17-2008, 08:51 AM DId the 840's ever come with steprtronic or was that a V12 only thing? Also, did they ever make 840 5 speeds? I am seriously considering an e31 now that we have our fourth child. I want a two door daily driver, an escape vehicle if you will, and have been eyeing the e31 for years. I dont want a v12 because I want to commute, and , well, my 740 sport gets bad enough mileage TerryY 04-17-2008, 09:17 AM '96 and later 840's have 5 speed Steptronic autos but have 1st gear locked out after warm up:(. No 840's were brought to the US with a 6 speed manual. Rest of the World versions were available but are usually premium priced. Importation would add $10K to $15K on top of the already high price. TxGR8White 04-17-2008, 11:08 AM you can convert to 6 speed for a little bit less than that Koizumi 04-17-2008, 01:47 PM V12 & V8 get essentially the same mileage. Car looks real nice. prit singh 04-17-2008, 01:51 PM BMW V8 lovely 323I Junkie 04-17-2008, 06:30 PM I thought about converting my 740 to a six speed but honestly the stetronic works so damn well...I know that 70 percent of the time I couldnt shift like that with all the distractions. I am okay with auto, but I do prefer steptronic. I love the 4.4, its a beautiful engine that I feel works very well all around. I would like to build one oneday, even if its a factory overhaul. I have never had the chance to do the whole thing. I wonder how hard a steptronic swap would be? 1chiban 04-17-2008, 06:40 PM I wonder how hard a steptronic swap would be? From what I've heard not easy :O... 323I Junkie 04-17-2008, 07:20 PM seems to me that tranny needs a lot of inputs that regular OS may not provide. When the 4L80E transmission came out, we thought it owuld never swap. Now conversion boxes are plentiful..you can put it on a carbed engine with just a few inputs. 840rod 04-17-2008, 10:07 PM where are the missing 4 cyl.?
