Hi guys, I've been having a play around with the diagnostic software can anyone help me to fill in the blanks of what the letters stand for, I've found out a few & a few are obvious like airbag & inst cluster but I'm struggling with the rest.

DME / DDE ?
HKL ?
EGS ?

Thanks.

DME is the Engine Management computer (2 of these for V12's)
HKL is the Climate Control
EGS is the Electronic Transmission Control unit

I've got carsoft so you can run a full diagnosis & see live data from the EGS, DME & DDE as well as erase all errors, I also have BMW TIS, got it all from ebay

Hi Wayne, how do you connect your OBD connector to your computer? I have an OBD cable with two serial connectors. My laptop has one serial connector connector port and I bought a second connector that is USB. But I can't get it to work :confused

Is yours a similar setup?

There are two versions of Carsoft
Old 3.X and requires two serial ports
New 6.X and requires only one serial port.

In my opinion they're both crap when it comes to E31. Not a lot of informations available. Even a peak tool is better....

This was the setup that I've got, I bought an old laptop off a mate which had a RS232 port and away I went.

I disagree with ethan's comment about these being crap, I've already used it to erase a error and with BMW charging £45 IIRC for a diagnosis its half payed for its self, and plus a good little toy to play around with.

I am talking abour Carsoft here. Based on your attached link the software you're using BMW Car Scanner and TIS and that's a totally different animal. Car Scanner & TIS it does a much better job than Carsof and I agree with you it ain't crap :-) But Carsoft was crap for me to be honest....
