View Full Version : Calgary owners?? mikeyrj 04-14-2008, 09:57 PM Anyone interested in doing some kind of meet and greet sometime in early May? Would be fun to get some members together and talk cars. MMmmmpower 04-14-2008, 10:23 PM You are better off coming up to edmonton for ours.....see other thread for details mikeyrj 04-15-2008, 12:48 AM But there are a few issues with that. 1 - Gas is damned expensive just for a meet 2 - I've done that drive 100+ times int he past 2 years, I don't need to do it again 3 - I'd be in Edmonton, and I hate that city. MMmmmpower 04-15-2008, 01:36 AM I agree with you on the first two, but dont cry about YOUR provincal capital. Just seems like the BMW scene is bigger up here, which is why I suggested coming mikeyrj 04-15-2008, 07:16 PM I agree with you on the first two, but dont cry about YOUR provincal capital. Just seems like the BMW scene is bigger up here, which is why I suggested coming Oh I know it's my provincial capital, hell it's the city I was born and raised in for 7 years. I just really don't like the city, and I've spent enough time there to make my own judgements against it and have my own reasons for it, etc etc. It's not like it's some petty Calgary VS. Edmonton thing. haha. boostedblueM3 04-15-2008, 11:30 PM ya i wouldnt mind doing a meet. it would have to be on a sunday though. ill be back on the road in a couple of weeks anyway. to many rocks on the road still, dont wanna chip the CF hood. 97'scort 04-16-2008, 11:30 AM A lot of the Calgary guys coming up (on Beyond.ca) are turning it into a WEM trip as well, and bringing the girlfriend/wife/mistress with them. Just a thought. GardenBeast 04-17-2008, 10:08 PM a meet would be neat. ooo... that rhyme sucked. a rapper i aint. Basheera 04-17-2008, 11:07 PM My car effing blows right now...I'd be embarrassed to meet. Top Dogxxx 04-18-2008, 02:18 PM Bash, ddont be embarrased ... if anything , i 'm sure we'd love to help you out , give you a few pointers or even point you in the right direction? whats so embarrasing about your car anyways? GardenBeast 04-18-2008, 05:30 PM My car effing blows right now...I'd be embarrassed to meet. haha. that's funny. same reason i dont wanna. stupid previous owner didnt take care of the paint. got the car cheaper cuz of it.... but .... ew. mikeyrj 04-18-2008, 06:41 PM haha my car is far from being anything worth looking at now. Doesn't mean it still wouldn't be fun to go for a BMW group drive and get some group shots somewhere. GardenBeast 04-18-2008, 07:05 PM true. true. when? sometime.... AFTER THIS RETARDED SNOW?!?! boostedblueM3 04-18-2008, 07:38 PM snow is gay. now i gotta wait another week before it comes out mikeyrj 04-18-2008, 08:11 PM Oh man this snow is completely ridiculous! Sunshine got 50 cm's TODAY!!! That's ridiculous. And I just bought a longboard too! I want to go rip it up but this weather seems to be taunting me. GardenBeast 04-18-2008, 08:22 PM i cant even move my car, were i to have it. my summers are pretty wide/bald. haha. and it's getting insurance body work done right now. Basheera 04-19-2008, 05:26 PM Bash, ddont be embarrased ... if anything , i 'm sure we'd love to help you out , give you a few pointers or even point you in the right direction? whats so embarrasing about your car anyways? You asked, here's the list! Since Calgary and the rocks are tearing my car apart from the beak, back: 1 - New Bumper 2 - New front clip (with new kidneys) 3 - New Fog Lights 4 - Respray front half of car after prepping. That's the esthetics. As for mechanical: 1 - New suspension OR new strut mount. I have an issue with the camber on the front passenger wheel. It's leaning in at about -3 degrees, which is enough to allow my summers to lean into the strut, causing punctures and annoying wobbles. 2 - Sunroof motor. The damn thing got stuck OPEN last year at the end of Fall. I tried to salvage the motor by rolling the panel in manually, but the damn thing stripped and I had to remove the motor (forcefully) to get the lid closed again. 3 - New tires. Above suspension problem tore my Dunlops apart, need new ones. 4 - Drivers seat. Forward and reverse motion doesn't work as well as the heat. 5 - No AC...This fix may be as simple as re-filling it, I'm sure there's no pressure in there. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I appreciate the offer to help man, but I think it's just a matter of me putting some time into it. I'm just embarrassed because my car is really, really bad to look at right now. It looks like someone attacked the front of my car with a tiny hammer and brown paint (my car is black!). Although, if any of you know of any places that would help me out (ie - deals), then please, by all means, slap me with some info...it'd be greatly appreciated! After tallying it all up, I would say I need to spend a solid 6-7k to get it back to being enjoyable. GardenBeast 04-19-2008, 10:26 PM hey man, my cars the same looks wise. haha. go to Service Collision. they said they'd paint my hood for $400. bumper, i did myself, but didn't prep it, no primer. bought a silver m3 bumper, and sprayed it with color matched rattle bombs my color. looked great, til recently. for mechanical, i have no ac either. the tensioner pulley went, so i yanked the belt, then was too lazy/cheap to replace it. and for repairs, take the car to HD Motors, in Inglewood. Steve's the man. He knows his stuff, gets right on it when ya bring it in, and has done cash with me for most repairs. www.rockauto.com for parts. cheapest by far, just watch shipping. my power steering pump was $200 on there. with $30 shipping. plus i got a $90 core return, after shipping the dead one back for $15. locally, the cheapest I could get the pump was $500.... with no core. Basheera 04-19-2008, 11:09 PM hey man, my cars the same looks wise. haha. go to Service Collision. they said they'd paint my hood for $400. bumper, i did myself, but didn't prep it, no primer. bought a silver m3 bumper, and sprayed it with color matched rattle bombs my color. looked great, til recently. Where'd you get the m3 bump? how much? I'd prefer that bastid over the one that's on my car. GardenBeast 04-20-2008, 12:02 AM awesome dude in edmonton sold it to me. $200. met me in red deer. post an ad, that's how i found him. he's always selling parts. owns a shop. alejandro, or something is his name in the forums. if ya wanna paint anything, go to advance auto color, on 28st NE, a little ways off memorial. they can mix your paint from the decal on your shock tower. matches great, too. brake check on macleod, by the back alley is another place i get work done. real good guys there. did my exhaust. i'm gonna be going back there to have my cat replaced with a cherry bomb. haha. take THAT mother nature! but, first.... my paint. and hell, as long as we both have ugly paint, at least if we DO do a meet, you or i wont be the only ugly car.... we'll have each other. haha. FUCK OFF SNOW! 97'scort 04-20-2008, 03:48 AM Your wheel that's leaning 3 degrees: talk to Bimmerworld.com. They have a front strut mount that's slightly off-camber that BMW used to use to correct camber in damaged vehicles. Might help you. Top Dogxxx 04-20-2008, 11:21 AM i know ... alejandro (alex) great guy , hes the guy that installed my supercharger ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrcTWq_U6Lc Basheera 04-20-2008, 02:07 PM Your wheel that's leaning 3 degrees: talk to Bimmerworld.com. They have a front strut mount that's slightly off-camber that BMW used to use to correct camber in damaged vehicles. Might help you. Beautiful! I'm not 100% sure that it would be the strut mount though. I know that the psi angle is the main perpetrator for the mean lean on my camber...and noticed that my strut mount looks warped/mangled/not centered. I'll send them off an email to see what they have to say...thanks guy! FUCK OFF SNOW! This snow is balls, I'm going to give up on Calgary soon. I think my car will take the award for 'worst paint ever' at any meet we could go to...I don't think you realize how much I hate being around my car when it looks like this. It's like hanging around with a fat girl at a bar that you know your friends frequent - you'll do it if you're desperate, but you're always looking around to see who will notice you. There's so many things I need to do man...I just need to win the lotto so I can do it all in one go. EDIT: Alex, if you read this, I need an M3 bump...let me know if this is possible. GardenBeast 04-20-2008, 03:34 PM me too, man. i had a dinner plate sized chunk of paint fly off my hood, on deerfoot. haha. it's awful. Basheera 04-20-2008, 05:13 PM me too, man. i had a dinner plate sized chunk of paint fly off my hood, on deerfoot. haha. it's awful. I hear ya there, I'm assuming that's what happened to my brake duct. Remembered a couple more things to add to the list: ABS light is on...dirty sensor OR faulty sensor. Cracked Windshield. GardenBeast 04-20-2008, 05:53 PM i dont even HAVE my brake ducts, or the big plastic thing under the bumper. you can see the ground through my makeshift mesh insert. my m bumper didnt come with the mesh. Basheera 04-23-2008, 10:09 AM Soooo...what could cause hesitation when pressing down on the g-pedal? Fuel filter? Position sensor? The list is-a growing... buhx2 04-23-2008, 02:57 PM the lack of a blower? :D Basheera 04-23-2008, 03:05 PM the lack of a blower? :D True...I could just say eff the repairs and get some forced air. :buttrock But it'd still look ugly, so I can't do it... m3conversion 04-25-2008, 01:33 AM Subscribed. Just in case there is a meet, I don't want to miss it. GardenBeast 04-26-2008, 08:26 PM Soooo...what could cause hesitation when pressing down on the g-pedal? Fuel filter? Position sensor? The list is-a growing... i wanna say oxygen sensor? go to auto value or part source. they can read engine codes.... Basheera 04-27-2008, 01:12 PM i wanna say oxygen sensor? go to auto value or part source. they can read engine codes.... Oxygen sensor eh? That could be a possibility since the wires are hanging low..maybe causing some damage. Check engine light would be on for that though, no? I have a buddy with a OBDII reader that I can easily hook up...if the O2 sensor was the case. 97'scort 04-28-2008, 12:11 AM If you're ever up in Edmonton (before June 14th, because after that I'm in Victoria) I have the ABS scan/reset tool so we can take care of that for you. Basheera 04-28-2008, 12:21 PM If you're ever up in Edmonton (before June 14th, because after that I'm in Victoria) I have the ABS scan/reset tool so we can take care of that for you. I'm in. I asked this question in the E36 forum, but no one got back to me. What is the ABS scan tool anyway? I've used the one for the OBDII port to reset the 'Check Engine' light, but I don't even know what the ABS scan tool is...can you elaborate? 97'scort 04-28-2008, 03:09 PM Same company (peake), tool costs about $120, which, ironically, is the cost of a scan from the dealer :) So it pays for itself after one use. You plug it into the circular port in your engine bay (this isn't your ODBII port, that's under the dash in the driver's footwell), let it scan for the error code, look up the code, and reset. The only time I wouldn't reset it is if the error corresponds to an actual malfunction with the impact sensors or the airbag triggers themselves. 90% of the time it's just a low voltage problem, which comes on sometimes if you boost it or disconnect the battery. Basheera 04-28-2008, 04:29 PM I distinctly remember the dealership, here in Calgary, doing that for me once because my lights were on. After they had ‘scanned the system’, they chalked it up to be an electrical bubble and my warning lights went away for about 3 or 4 months. So, now they’ve been back for quite some time now and I’m really tired of looking at them… So yeah, if you’re still interested and available, I can head down to where ever you are and get this checked out. I’ll send you off a PM… 97'scort 04-28-2008, 05:25 PM I only have the SRS one, not the engine one. If that's still good then cool. I don't know why the hell I put ABS tool. That makes me a tool, I suppose! AIRBAG TOOL. That's the one I have. GardenBeast 05-01-2008, 10:01 PM frickin safety systems. always with the expensive... my airbag light takes about 5 or so min to go out. it goes out. that means it's okay, right? i'm putting in a momo some day, so i dont reaaaalllly care, but... y'know. m3conversion 05-02-2008, 12:11 AM frickin safety systems. always with the expensive... my airbag light takes about 5 or so min to go out. it goes out. that means it's okay, right? i'm putting in a momo some day, so i dont reaaaalllly care, but... y'know. It usually means there's a code stored in the system. Since it goes away it's probably still functional. Maybe your occupancy sensor, or seat belt sensor or something like that. Basheera 05-02-2008, 09:43 PM I only have the SRS one, not the engine one. If that's still good then cool. I don't know why the hell I put ABS tool. That makes me a tool, I suppose! AIRBAG TOOL. That's the one I have. So let me get this straight, there's a peake tool that checks codes in the circular socket in the engine bay, an SRS tool AND an OBDII socket in the car? So, what actually reads for ABS errors? I don't think the SRS one can help me... azngouki 05-02-2008, 10:40 PM Sweet I would be down for a meet. Especially if somebody packs their srs tool cuz my airbag light has been on for a solid year. My cars pretty ugly too. Rock chips all over the front and my lip spoiler was ripped off this winter 97'scort 05-03-2008, 03:10 AM So let me get this straight, there's a peake tool that checks codes in the circular socket in the engine bay, an SRS tool AND an OBDII socket in the car? So, what actually reads for ABS errors? I don't think the SRS one can help me... Sorta...the circular port in the car lets you use both the SRS (airbag) and Check Engine tools from Peake. They are two different tools. BMW uses this as the main diagnostic port. The ODBII port is a general diagnostic port that lets your everyday shop trace engine problems. ABS will not trigger an error. If it's not working, then you need to start tracing systems. I mentioned the SRS tool since you said your airbag light is on, and I figured I could save you some cash and let you know why :) Basheera 05-03-2008, 04:12 PM Sorta...the circular port in the car lets you use both the SRS (airbag) and Check Engine tools from Peake. I really meant the ACS/ABS combo...and I have to figure out which sensors are messing around. GardenBeast 05-04-2008, 01:06 AM alright, basheera. i'll make ya feel better, i hope. here's my ragged rides. (just got an e30 today! $300! Basheera 05-04-2008, 11:18 AM lol! wow...okay, yeah you may have me beat. Although, the whole part that holds my grilles is basically brown for some reason...dude, that's a lot of paint coming off your hood, I think mine's only a couple square inches. Where the eff did you find the 'fuck' E30 for $300? GardenBeast 05-04-2008, 12:38 PM some old guy was selling it on kijiji.ca. it was a best offer ad. i said "what do you want for it?" cuz it wouldn't start. he never emailed me back, then yesterday out of the blue, i get "i got it started. $300 takes it" so i drove to the NW to get it. hahaha. and i toldja my hood was bad. i'm re-doing it at some point this summer. but as soon as i get my angel eye headlights, i'm doing the bumper, grilles, nose panel, etc. GardenBeast 05-05-2008, 01:39 AM update: e30 runs fantastic. did some work on it today. fixed power steering, i think. reservoir was empty.... lol. filled it with lucas' power steering stop leak, and some fluid. pump was loud for a bit, then shut up. steering works. windows werent working, now they are, aside from the driver's rear. i loves the car. loves it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/GardenBeast/DSCN1382.jpg Basheera 05-05-2008, 09:26 AM Whoever doesn't love E30s should be banned from Calgary...lol. I lived close to one of the guys who runs the BMW club down south here and he had an E30 M3, completely gutted and ready for the track. It sounded wild. It's too bad you found the economy version...it reduces the top speed from mach2 to mach1. GardenBeast 05-05-2008, 09:28 PM i still like it. i'm not gonna sell it. i kinda fell for it yesterday, when fixing little shit... drives so nice. stick shifts a little sloppy, but whatever.... it's 21 years old. i wish it wasn't across town from me. i'd be playing with it some more. gonna get it inspected tomorrow, or the next day, and drive it for a while, see how it is. |
