Melted pieces of what? Plastic? Rubber? Salisbury steak? I've seen little bits that appear to be plastic pellets in the oil filter canister, turns out it was just the sludge in the engine breaking free from the valvetrain or wherever, coursing through the engine, and then getting stuck in the oil filter. (We has just de-sludged a 740 motor that hadn't had the oil changed in 34,000 miles).

What is your process for de-sludge ?

At our shop we would pull and clean oil pan. Clean pick up for the oil pump, and then run seafoam.
