View Full Version : DCT will be available on the sedan in June Kevlar 04-14-2008, 10:25 AM I was told that the DCT tranny will be available on the sedan starting in June. ettsn 04-16-2008, 03:18 PM Oh excellent! :) RayfuM5 04-16-2008, 05:33 PM Any more info on the DCT? ArcticFox 04-22-2008, 05:23 PM That has been to word for a while. BMW released a memo to the US dealers in January informing them that the E90 will not get the DCT until June. A few weeks ago BMW re-released the memo to the dealers. So, I guess that the dealers forgot, or kept asking when the DCT was coming out and BMW "reminded" them that it would not be until June. I have a E90 w/ DCT on order with a week 23 build request (June). Hopefully it will happen as scheduled. AFAIK, the week 23 build allocations have NOT been released yet (next week prolly), so nobody really has a "real" production date for an E90 w/ DCT yet...but hopefully they will start poppin' next week! More info to follow when available.... RayfuM5 04-22-2008, 07:53 PM I'm curious to see how it stacks up against the 6 speed. ArcticFox 04-23-2008, 01:04 PM I'm curious to see how it stacks up against the 6 speed. Well, from what I have seen/read, the DCT is supposedly about 0.2 seconds faster from 0-60. I guess we will have to wait and see what the specs are once the magazines get ahold of one. FYI -- the fastest 0-60 I saw published in a mag was 4.1 seconds for the 6 speed! That is DAMN fast. Hell, the fastest I have seen for my car is 3.9 seconds. If the 0.2 seconds for the DCT is true, the M3 will be as fast as my car from 0-60. DAMN! bowmang 05-01-2008, 04:01 PM well, i am a tech at the VDC in california, and i can tell you, we have numerous E92's and E93's coming through with the DCT, and have for the past few weeks, most of them are event cars, but i have sent a few around to dealers also. i was able to test drive one last week, and another tech was out at the same time with a 6 speed, i don't know how his driving skills are, but the DCT smoked the 6 speed. it is uncredible, you can set it so you barely feel the shift, or if you want.. it is similar to the SMGII in the E46 M3, and you can have it slam you in your seat. i would absolutely reccomend the DCT, it truely is amazing... i think i have another to test drive today actually... i can't wait! Seph540i 05-04-2008, 04:00 AM What exactly is the DCT? bmwjuggalo 05-04-2008, 05:09 AM DCT - Dual Clutch transmission, right?!? Cory 05-04-2008, 10:06 AM How does it work? My wife's lease expires in about a year and an automatic M3 would be "the car". Is it sort of like an automatic and/or would someone who's incapable of driving a manual be able to figure it out? Thanks. NoSoup4U 05-05-2008, 08:47 AM How does it work? My wife's lease expires in about a year and an automatic M3 would be "the car". Is it sort of like an automatic and/or would someone who's incapable of driving a manual be able to figure it out? Thanks. From my understanding, it should be easier than SMG II. I tried to teach my fiance stick on the p-car and m5 -- after 2 clutches later, decided SMG was the route. So, got her an SMG 'vert as a fun car. She likes it -- keeps it in full A mode. The DCT is supposed to be much smoother (hardly can feel shifts) for her, or have the jerkiness of SMG if you want it ... It is supposedly worlds apart from SMG though (in a good way though). I'm looking forward to driving one ... bowmang 05-05-2008, 12:30 PM the DCT is great for someone who does no know how to drive a stick, because it takes away the tricky part... the clutch. it is similar to SMG in the fact that you do use the paddle shifters, so as long as you can teach your wife when she needs to shift.. she will have a blast with it. it is way smoother than the SMGII from the E46 M3, you can't even feel the shifts, it is incredible. and to answer another question, the way it works is it has one clutch and input shaft for 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th gear, and a seperate clutch and input shaft for 2nd, 4th and 6th gear. it is essentially two transmissions combined into one, so when you are in first, second is already ready to go. i had automatic mode and manual mode like the SMG. follow this link, there is a great video you can watch that shows it in action. http://origin.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/mseries/m3convertible/2008/allfacts/engine/m_dkg_drivelogic1.html (http://origin.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/mseries/m3convertible/2008/allfacts/engine/m_dkg_drivelogic1.html) |
