I'll be there, and 18 others are signed up on facebook. I also have "maybe" from 4-6 Calgary folks, plus about 25 on facebook. Right now we're looking at anywhere from about 22-50 people.

And don't worry about "stealing thunder" :) We're all on the same team, eh? :D

If the snow isn't gone by the 10th I may have to take a raincheck... or a snowcheck rather. My car is still in storage at the moment.

...I hate to say it's a possibility that this snow could still be around then. Forecast isn't breaking out of single digits anytime in the next two weeks.

I think we'll keep it on for now, but if it doesn't clear up a bit we'll have to cancel.

ive got a trickle charger ... you could give it a try and see what happens befor you buy a new battery..... i parked my e30 for 2 months ( the coldest 2 months) this past winter, and my battery froze solid.. all i did was thaw it out and charge. now it works great for the past 4 months.

oh and what time is everyone meeting at hawrlack park may10th?

I drove the car around for about an hour after it was boosted and it didn't hold a charge. I knew that it wasn't the alternator so I took the battery out and got it topped up and then set it on trickle for a day and still no luck. Thanks for the offer but I think I'm gonna have to splurge for a new one anyway...

UPDATE:

As of right now, I have approximately 30 confirmed vehicles coming to the meet. At $5/ea, this is $150 to work with. Unfortunately, this isn't going to work.

I've already had to spend $114.00 on renting the site. BBQ rental (not including propane, but I happen to have a cylinder) is $80. It'll probably be another $25-30 for plates, napkins, ketchup, mustard, relish, etc. This puts spending somewhere in the neighbourhood of $230, which simply cannot be provided with the confirmed numbers.

I say 'confirmed' because despite my best efforts, there continues to be a large number of people who may or may not come. Nothing more I can do about that.

So here are our options:

1) Somebody generously donates a BBQ for use. I have propane, and I will pick up and return the BBQ on Saturday. This knocks $80+tax off the rentals and lets us keep the $5/car.

2) Price goes up to $10/car for everybody. That'll give us about $300 to work with and we can make a nice donation to the Emergency Shelter.

I don't really see any other alternatives, but if anybody has one I'm open to hearing it. We can't change the hours for the site, so that $114 is already gone. I have receipts if anyone is curious.

So PLEASE, if anyone can donate a BBQ, that's the easiest option. If not, I'm afraid the price will have to go up, as I really don't feel like taking the hit for this. PM me or call me on my cell @ 977-8517. Thanks everybody!

BYOM?( bring your own meat)?

97'scort
05-08-2008, 05:38 PM
Yeah, bring your own meat, buns, drinks. I'm hoping that will be easier but who knows. We'll try it. We'll bring condiments and napkins and such.

Let's keep the meat to burgers and hotdogs/smokies, okay? I'm not doing chicken breast and steak here ;)

If you're looking for an Optima red or yellow, let me know and we can get one through the shop.

I'm trying to cash in on the warranty for my dead Interstate but the Interstate guy is taking forever to determine if it really is a dead cell. I should know by tomorrow morning. The PO (fool) bought the battery and it is the wrong size (too large). It cannot be held down properly so it jumps everytime I hit a bump. Thanks for the offer mate. I'll let you know if I end up going with Optima.

Back on topic, I will pay $10 if I make it. I'll do my best to get the car going. I really don't wanna miss this meet...

Ha, we'll tow you there if we have to :) Optima isn't the right size either (too small) but we have ways of making shit fit perfect ;)

My neighbour just bought a battery for his veh,it didn't fit either,so all we did was file down the bottom lips around the battery, now its nice and snug.

Good news first. It looks like I am going to get a new Interstate (one that fits!) under warranty. The bad news? I can't get it until monday... The E30 is gonna have to sit this one out unless someone has a towtruck. I will probably come anyways to check everyones stuff out. What a downer this is.

Big thanks to everybody who came out! I had a great time. Weather cooperated and I think everybody else had a good time too.

A couple of notes: If you showed up, but didn't pay, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know! No hard feelings at all, I'm sure some people just forgot. With the food/condiments/plates etc, plus picnic site, it was just shy of $150, but I only have $115 from people who paid. I don't mind absorbing that cost, but just let me know.

Also, in the future, we might have to re-think the site. Hawrelak (or any river valley park) absolutely requires site bookings, which cost money. The majority of parks don't, however. For the future, I suggest holding these meets elsewhere, just to save money. I was really hoping to have a donation for the Shelter, but we didn't even break even, mostly because of the site rental. Something to ponder.

mitch500
05-11-2008, 10:19 PM
yeah i say the park by the valley zoo.... i believe there are some sites you have to reserve but others you dont..... ive been down there many times and never heard anything about paying..... just a thought.
