Yes, I am having the notorious CEL on now. I took it to my local mechanic and he put the code reader and there was no codes.(This was the same one I took before and then it read camshaft position sensor). He tried to get rid of the light but it is still there. I have ordered a peak research code reader and I am still awaiting confirmation from them. It takes me a return trip of 10 hours to get to the nearest dealership so I thought investing in a code reader was worth it.

Good call on the peake reader, they pay for themselves after 2 uses.

Did the mechanic read from the OBD or the under-the-hood port? Some codes can't be read from the OBD port.

The mechanic read from the OBD. He does not have any under hood readers. No garages around where I live seems to have any reader that can be used under the hood. So I bought the Peake Research reader.

Yeah, like I said before it's likely the code wasn't even sent to the OBD, so a normal OBD reader won't pick it up. The Peake reader should get it for sure though. Let us know either way.

For someone unknown reason the CEL light has disappeared. I will check again tomorrow morning to see if the light is still off.

The disappearing CEL is a characteristic of a faulty camshaft position sensor. Mine would appear, disappear, reappear, and finally stayed on constantly until I replaced the sensor. Possibly if I had not replaced the sensor when I did, the cycle would have repeated itself ad infinitum.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Jake, I replaced the camshaft sensor, about 3 weeks back. I got it from the dealership and when I installed it, the light went off. It came back on Saturday morning and went out yesterday. I got the OBD reader while the light was on but it said that there is no codes and it is OK to drive.( I used the same one the previous time it came on and gave the camshaft sensor codes and I replaced them).
I have ordered the Peake Research code reader and they told me that they have shipped it yesterday and it should get here by end of the week or early next week. If it is a camshaft sensor then I am more worried as to why it is failing so quickly.

Thanks

Check the wiring to the sensor (trace it back a little if you have to). Could be something shorting out the sensor... or in the dash triggering the light(?). Be interesting to hear what you find. Good Luck!

Not to be a dick, but I think you guys are jumping the gun too quick on the CPS. Many things can cause the CEL to go in and out, considering the difficulty level of wiring the CPS (almost none), I think we can trust him to have done an adequate job. I think we should wait until he gets his scanner before making any assumptions.
