I recently installed my new HID kit in my fogs (9006). They only work if I turn on my fogs BEFORE I start the car. (e.g. I turn the key to the on position, turn on parking lights and fogs, crank engine and I'm fine.)

If I start the car without turning on my lights, I get an error msg on the instrument cluster, check foglights & they wont illuminate.

Very strange. please help!

Would resistor packs clear this up? If they will, where's the best(cheapest) place to get them?

Typical E39 check system problem. An inline adapter (resistor, I think you were right) is what is needed.

Very. Thanks for the tip. I'll try to find a good deal on resistors somewhere. The thing thats weird is I was told E39's don't generally have this issue w/HID fogs. I was told no resistors needed & I know of others w/HID fogs in thier E39's w/no resistors & it works just fine. I guess I'm the lucky one...:(

Incorrect; E39's are known to have this problem. I think e46's are the ones that are immune to it and maybe someone mixed them up.

My e46 has issues with HID fogs...I'm about to ditch them and go back to yellow bulbs or "HID matching" bulbs...

Ok stand corrected. I needed to know that too; installing some HIDs on a buddies E46 and wasn't sure if they suffered from the same computer problem as E39.


KMFD; I have a theory about quickly and easily getting the fogs to work on your car. When our 540 gets back tonight I'll test out my idea and let you know if it'll work! ;)

Update: I ordered some resistors off ebay for $25 a few days ago & got 'em in the mail today. They cleared up the issue. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but please elaborate on where i can purchase such things to match 6000k HIDs. Can I just throw them in my regular foglights?

yea they replace your existing bulbs...pm habbie. He may be able to help you.
